Bigger Hall For Meeting Nevada City Chamber of Commerce President Alice McGee is looking for larger quarters to hold the Sept. 23 meeting of the chamber at which time the group's future will be decided. Indications are that there will bea large crowd at the meeting, andthe City Hall council chamber is limited in size. Although site of the Monday night meeting cannot be announced until later this week, Mrs. McGee indicated that the most likely site is the Nevada City Elementary School auditorium. Crawford Asks Leave Nevada County Building Inspector Jack Crawford, for reasons of health, will ask the Nevada County Board of Supervisors today for a 90 day leave of absence. The building department staff hascarried on with departmental workathis week without the services of Crawford. Crawford has recommended to the board that the county name Bob Hurlbut of the building department as temporary building inspector. SMALL CITY WORKSHOP SLATED HERE OCT. 26-27 The Small City in California, Its Past and Its Prospects, will be studied at a two-day workshop in Nevada CityOct. 26 and 27 under the joint sponsorship of the University of California at Davis and the Nevada City Chamber of
Commerce. The workshop will cover a varied agenda from planning to human values, from architecture to business and real estate. At least six experts on the topics chosen for the workshop will be brought to Nevada City by University Extension at Davis, it was announced this week by the local UCD Committee co-chairman John Knutson. Knutson said that local arrangements are under the able direction of a committee headed by Sharon Fairclough. The workshop will be held in the Elks Lodge hall, and will include a dinner session Oct. 26, with "The Role of the Small City intheRegion” as topic for a featured speaker that evening.
