(USAF Photo) Operation identification expands county functions “Operation Identification,” a program started in Nevada City two years ago to decrease the number of burglaries, has branched out to include the whole county. Nevada City Business and Professional Women began engraving valuable household items, appliances, etc. in August 1971. A homeowner’s ~ drivers license number is engraved on a nonremovable portion of a television set, for example, and a sticker placed in the residence window stating that the home is protected by ‘Operation Identification.” If any items are later stolen and police may readily identify them so they may be returned to the owner. Police also have found that one dealing in stolen goods, ‘‘a fence’ is less likely to take items so marked. George Bryant named to serve George Bryant, director of curriculum for Nevada county schools, has been invited to serve on the federal legislation committee for the Association of California School Administrators. S The sticker, which each homeowner is given, advises potential thieves that ‘‘all items of value on these premises have been marked for ready identification by law “The key to success of this system is for a large number of citizens in a community to participate so thieves will know they are operating in dangerous territory,’’ Nevada City police say who have encouraged the program for the past two years. The engraving tool is now available at Yuba River Lumber Company. Anyone who wants to engrave his_ identification number on valuable items in his home may borrow the tool from Yuba River and obtain the warning stickers. Anyone without a driver’s license may obtain. an identifying number which will remain on file with local law enforcement agencies. Quilt show planned for Oct. 27-28 A wide variety of old and new quilts will be on display and for sale Oct. 27 and 28 by the Sunflower School of Nevada City. Anyone interested in entering a quilt for display or sale or for demonstrating the quilting technique is urged to contact Barbara Regier at the Scotch Broom in Nevada City. The quilt show will be held at the Nevada City armory from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 28. In addition to quilts there will be many gift items available, homemade using the quilting technique. During the two day show quilt makers will demonstrate the art on a cathedral window quilt and have quilting books and supplies for sale.
