September 2, 1965...Nevada County Nugget...@9 THE NEW in Grass Valley, MOBILE LABORATORY * Pure Water system is housed in this van on Deer Creek Three Different Stages Are Used In New Water Treatment Process (Continued from Page 1) Sulfur gas is used for this stage, Next the water is transported to an agitator where the precipitant, lime, is added, The precipitates are then tem oved by filtration making the water suitable for drinking. Finally the precipitates are transferredtoa reduction furnace where they are reduced to an alloy suitable for commercial die-casting, Raw sewage can be treated in a similar manner by first removing sticks, stones and other material which cannot be transferred through pipe lines and by filtering off the bulk sewage and drying and sacking it for sale as humus fertilizer, All of the byproducts obtained during the process can be sold, The bulk humus fertilizer can be sold for an average of $6.50 per 50 pound sack. Between one to five per cent of sewage is bulk, Salt or saline water produces livestock salt which can be marketed at $1.49 per 40 pound block, The metalalloy from the waterhas a value of 16 cents per pound, A gallon of water yields about a quarter ounce of precipitates, The aim of Pure Water, which is the local name of the organi— zation, iS to create interest in the process by giving demonstrations here and then to sell the processto municipalities and other governmental units, Huntington maintains that the company will not be selling domestic water, They will sell the right to use the process and willalso engineer and design any plants purchased, He pointed out that we have so contaminated the land, streams and air through the use of septic tanks which eventually feed bacteria back into the soil and water, that even completely pure water quickly becomes contaminated by bacteria again if allowed to sit around long. His solution isto treat all water and all sewage by this new system sothat bacteria normally carried in sewage will have a chance to destroy itself, Eventually he says, by this method pollution will be eliminated, The system is here and what it can do has been dramatically demonstrated, What the future holds for the System as an answer to both our water problems and pollution problems is still unknown, Whether the system holds out the chance for Nevada County to land a sizable industrial plant is also still unknown, Vernon -S, Townsend, 12, son of Mr, and Mrs, Charles Townsend of Nevada City, was fatally injured late Tuesday morning when he fell from his bicycle under the wheels of a passing car.
