Number 83 VOLUME 49 10 Cents A Copy Published Wednesdays, Nevada City. “September 20, 1972 _ County gets Forest funds of $262,499 Apportionments to counties of revenues from United States Forest Reserves and Federal grazing fees were made this week. Nevada county received $262,499 from forest reserves and $98.72 as grazing fees. Apportionment to California's 39 counties which share the forest reserve revenue totaled $20,735,012, up $9.4 million over the previous fiscal year. The 11 counties with the smallest population, not including Nevada county, received 42 percent of the total. One half of the forest reserve revenue per county is deposited in the county school service fund and one-half to the county road fund. California's 43 designated counties which receive federal grazing fees received a total of $56,621. Clients may enjoy an inviting lounge area beautifully furnished in every way. Telephone and television outlets are provided in every room; a piano is located in the dining room, and may be placed elsewhere if desirable. Included are registered nurses, licensed vocational housekeepers, cooks, helpers and a maintenance man, . whose scheduled tours of duty cover the 24 hour detail in full compliance with all pertinent regulations and laws for such establishments. Life in the best of such institutions always holds a threat of boredom for some people. At Spring Hill Manor “‘boredom’’ is a seldom heard word because there is too much of interest provided for the clients to enjoy. Various church groups provide song-fests and special services, such as the Folk Mass performed by Father Rial and some of his young parishioners once each month. Recently a nondenominational ‘‘Auxiliary’’ has come into existance on a small scale, hopefully it will grow with time and the right kind of encourage ment, The ladies of this latter group take patients out for wheelchair rides about the beautiful grounds; some play games with those who are more closely confined; others write letters for those who cannot cope with that chore personally; and there are some who just come to ‘‘visit”’ with those whose families and other friends do not always find the time regularly. The park has 30 primitive campsites, plus fishing and swimming in the Blair Reservoir, and there are hiking trails and historic exhibits about the days when the hydraulic miners were changing the face of California in their search for gold. Whole hillsides were washed away by _ powerful streams of water, and the Malakoff Mine pit today resembles a miniature Bryce Canyon.
