Lake of Pines gets
go-ahead on ranchos
Despite a desire by Acting
Chairman’ Dean Lawrence to
have a week to study the documents, the board of supervisors Tuesday adopted the final
map and subdivision improvements agreement of Lake of
the Pines Ranchos,
The newest of Boise Cascade's
developments in Nevada county,
the Ranchos came up for action
early in the morning meeting
when County Counsel Leo Todd
said he had the final map and
improvement agreement and that
they were in proper order.
"T personally would like to see
these things," Mrs. Lawrence
said.
The proposed subdivision is in
her district, and Supervisor
Willie Curran noted that "if the
supervisor in that district is
concerned about it, I'll wait."
The item then was tabled until next Tuesday.
But a little later, David Clendening, .engineer for the developers, came to the microphone
and protested that "delay of approval of the map one week
will put a burden on the definal map were brought to the
board with assurances from the
cecunty counsel, planning director and public works director,
the board always approved the
map,"
Clendening contended that "it
should be public knowledge before you adopt" a change in policy to delay maps a week so
supervisors.can peruse them.
"I think it is objectionable to
rush the board,"' Mrs. Lawrence
replied. This is not at all like
asking for the subdivider to improve a road. This is avery minor matter and I don't see that
they're terribly handicapped."
Supervisor William Thomas
added that the item should be
delayed "if the supervisor representing the district has apprehensions,"
"I just have apprehensions of
the system,” Mrs. Lawrence
replied. "When I was county
counsel, I was horrified at the
form these maps came in. Maps
coming in from Placer county
are much better prepared than
ours locally, I think we could
improve our methods."

Bud Townsend and his wife
Betty were the chairmen for the
occasion. They and .their. committee served potluck dinner to
over 100 members of the club
and members of the Grass Valley Rifle, Rod and Gun, Club
Auxiliary,
The club was organized in
1919 by John D, Truscott, John
Mann, Arthur Foote and Robert
Bedford as the Grass Valley
Rifle Club. Truscott is the only
surviving member of the original group. William Thomas
‘joined the club in 1929 and
Johnny Nankervis joined in 1930.
For many years the club held
their indoor activities in the
second floor of the Eldridge
building across from the Grass
Valley City Hall until the death
of Harold Eldridge who was a
Past President of the club. When
the building was sold the club
members built their present club
house on the Truscott property
on Alta Hill which ground was
donated to the club by Ruth and
John Truscott. :
The club purchased its Fuller

late William (Bill) Black.

The engineer. argued that. ''ac* tion to delay is somewhat unprecedented. In the past. if a

Thomas said the planning director should be on hand to answer questions whenever a final
map is before the board,
Finally, Curran moved to approve the map and subdivision
agreements, and both were approved by 3-1 votes with Mrs.
Lawrence voting no.
