SACRAMENTO-The _ State
Department of Parks and Recreation is accepting bids for
construction, equipping, maintenance, and operation of a concession complex at Siverwood
Lake State Recreation Area in
San Bernardino County.
The concession will be on
the south shore of Silverwood
Lake, at the Sawpit Canyon Area,
which is scheduled to open for
public recreation in the spring
of 1973.
State Parks Director William
Penn Mott, Jr. said sealed bids
will be publicly opened and read
at 2 p.m., October 17, 1972.
The successful bidder will be
awarded a 20-year contract to
build and operate concessioii facilities to serve as many as
5,000 people a day. Now being
constructed are a 6-lane boat
launching ramp and parking facilities for 620 cars plus 185
cars with trailers.
The concessionaire will provide a marina and boat-supply
facility to be open seven days
a week during the entire term
of the contract, except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas, and
a snack bar and beach refreshment stand to be open six days
a week.

were. opened May 26 this year
in the Cedar Springs Dam area
at the north end of the lake. The
three boat launching lanes and
parking area for 90 cars served
an estimated 18,000 visitors
during the Memorial Day weekend. Ninety-nine boats were
launched on Memorial Day.
Several more areas are to be
opened for recreation at Siverwood Lake during the next three
years,
Silverwood Lake is one of the
four lakes of the State Water
Project_ in Southern California.
Water for the lake flows more
than 400 miles from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta-boosted from near sea level by 8
pumping plants along the California Aquduct--before it reaches the lake, 3,355 feet above
sea level.

are invited to inspect the prospectus and preliminary plans
and specifications at no charge

Truckee-Tahoe Voters must register for
airport gets
$115,794 help
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Harold T, "Bizz"
Johnson, representing the Lake
Tahoe Area, today announced the
approval of a $115,794 grant to
help expand a parking apron at
the Truckee-Tahoe Airport.
"When completed," Congressman Johnson said, "The new
apron will have some 215,000
square feet of airplane parking
area, complete with ‘"tiedowns."
"As part of the project, two
taxi-ways 300X50 feet, will be
installed and marked, and the
apron area will be lighted.
"This is good news for the
Airport District, which has had
substantial federal assistance
over the years for the development of airport facilities."
For the past 3 years the Federal Aviation Administration,
Area concession Which made the grant announced
today, has invested nearly $600,000 in the facility. The most
recent grant was made under
the provisions of the Airport
Development Act, supported by
Congressman Johnson earlier
this Congress,
County Clerk Theo. A. Kohler Jr. urges that those eligible
to vote and who have not registered do so promptly so they
can vote in the Nov. 7 general
election.
The deadline to register for
the general election falls on
Sunday Oct. 8. Because the
clerk's office is closed Saturdays and Sundays final registrations must be completed by
5 p.m. Friday Oct. 6.
A preliminary review of eligible voters shows an increase
over those who could go to the
polls in the June primary election. There were 16,987 registered voters in this country as
of Sept. 14, according to a report submitted to the state. In
the June primary there were
15,726 eligible voters. The registration also shows a significant
increase over the 14,589 eligible
voters for the 1970 general election. During September more
than 1,000 voters were registered. A report shows that as of
August 30 there were 14,854 on
the books.
The September report to the
state of 16,987 showed the following party break downs:
Democrats, 8,741; Republicans,
7,484; declined to state, 690;
American Independent, 43;
Peace and Freedom, 29.
The county clerk has appointed deputy registrars for public
convenience and _— suggests,
general election by Oct. 6
