Editor, Nevada County ‘Nugget
Dear Sir: _
Do you know that there is a
free service in Nevada City
which you and your Nevada
County readers are not taking
advantage of? Itis" OPERATION
IDENTIFICATION.” You will
find the desk just inside the
doors of the City Hall in Nevada
City Monday through Friday
from 1 to 4p.m,
"Operation Identification" isa
plan to foil house thieves by engraving your driver's license
number. on all your valuables,
then placing a sticker on your
windows and doors which states
that your valuable items are
marked for ready identification
with Law Enforcement Agencies,
Thieves are reluctant to steal
marked objects — .and your
driver's license number is identifiable within minutes through
any Police Department, For
those of you who do NOT
drive, you can go to the Motor
Vehicles Department and they
will issue to you an identification number which is yours and
yours alone just as the driver's
license number is,
Do you know that engraving
tools with which to mark your
valuables, are being loaned free
of charge? And the stickers given
free? At this same desk inside
the City Hall doors? "Operation
Identification" is a service in_ stituted by theNevadaCityBusi-:
ness & Professional Women's
-club in conjunction with the
Nevada City Police Department,
Why don't we all take advantage
of it?
Thank you,
CLARA M, PETERSON

Helping them celebrate were

were house guests for two days.
Visiting old friends and relatives in FrenchCorral recently
were several old-timers who
manage to spend some time here

Ranchers in the NorthSan Juan
area have begun bringing their
cattle down from the summer
pastures in the mountains,
Among the first to beat the snow
were Francis Reader and the
Browning families, Their cattle are at present resting in
the home pastures before going
on down to winter grazing in the
valley,
Ordinarily this would mean
a long trek down the French
Corral and Pleasant Valley
roads, but this year, due to the
closing of the covered bridge at
Bridgeport, the cows will ride
the rest of the way in trucks,
Hopefully this will not be a
permanent change, as a cattle
drive in this Atomic Age is a
rarity, and this vestige of one
of the better aspects of the Old
West should be preserved as
long as possible for the benefit
of the observer.
Up for the opening day of
