They built their homes
on herring boxes!
Today, the nation’s highest dam is rising, astride the Feather River at Oroville.
This modern marvel of engineering skill will add greatly to the prosperity of
Midvalley Country.
It is difficult to picture the beginnings of.this busy city as reported by a Butte
County Newspaper in 1856: “It is astonishing, the rapidity with which buildings are being built in Oroville. Yesterday we noticed the cornerstones (four
herring boxes) of a building being placed in position to receive the lumber
for the surface of the floor. In the evening the building was occupied and
taking in boarders.”
In the mad, mad days of the gold strikes, this was probably no exaggeration.
Modern folks in Midvalley Country are somewhat more demanding and now,
as they have for 37 years, Midvalley Savings is helping responsible people
with the financing that makes home-ownership possible. If you are planning
to buy, build, or refinance your home, see one of our home loan specialists
today. And if you are looking for a profitable place for your savings, right now
is a good time to open an account at Midvalley Savings because funds placed
by the 10th of the month earn from the first.
