NID considers gold _
recovery on Bear
The Nevada Irrigation and Mining
District?
Well, not quite. But the NID board
of directors is taking a ‘hard look at a
gold recovery project that at its best
would relieve the financial burden of .
‘water customers and at the worst will
not cost them a cent.
Seeking the mineral rights on NID
owned sites on the Bear River is
Micron Gold Recovery Systems Inc.
The Sacramento based firm claims to
have devised a system that will remove
better than 95 per cent of the gold
contained in raw materials.
Representing Micron at the
regular Wednesday meeting of the
board was John O’Day, who said he has
spent nearly 60 of his 75 years
developing the principles. of gold
recovery.
“The Bear River has never been
scratched, none has ever gotten to the
bottom,” O’Day said.
He plans to get to the bottom of the
river by working in conjunction with
sand and gravel operations that are
now underway on NID leased property.
According to test results obtained
by sampling the ground around the
gravel operations Micron discovered
gold content which ranged in value
from $2.24 to $48 per ton of material,
according to Project Manager Thomas
O'Day said he expects the yield of
Local youth group
gold from loose material on the bottom
of the Bear River to be extremely rich
in fine gold, which only his methods can
remove at a profit.
He emphasized that he was not
suggesting a dredging operation which
is inefficient and pollutes the water.
His method will actually aid in-cleaning
up the river, he said.
For the mineral rights on the
property NID has been offered 10 per
cent of all gold recovered.
_ “We could fall flat on our face and
a] get you $100,000 a year,’ O’Day
said.
NID Board President Francis
Dobbas said that he could see no reason
not to allow the operation as long as all
environmental considerations were
cleared with the proper government
agencies and R.J. Miles Co., which has
the gravel operation was agreeable to
the plan.
Miles, who was present at the
meeting, said that he would be
agreeable as long as Micron did not
interfere with his business. And, he
said, if he was able to help in the
. operation he would like to share in the
