High School Custodian Honored GRASS VALLEY -----Walter Alpers, custodian at the Nev= ada Union High School, was feted at a surprise party by his fellow workers and the administrators at the school Wednesday in honor of his retirement after 38 years of ‘service to the. district. “Wally” asheis affection=ately known to hundreds of students, past and present, and teachers was taken com= pletely by surprise as fellow custodians, bus drivers, members of the office staff of the school, Superintendent Gerald Gellat and Principal William George welcomedhimtocake, and coffee in the afternoon. He was presented with a fishing rod and handy case by the group. Superintendent Gallet expressed appreciation on behalf of the Board for Alpers long service to the district, while Principal George spoke feelingly of his own association with him over the years, Alpers became an employe of the district with the opening of the then new building at Grass Valley High School in 1924, he with the late O, H, Fuller being the first custodians forthe district, In more recent years, as responsibilities grew, he was named chief custodian.
