Earnings Are at New High SAN FRANCISCO, August 30, 1967 --Average earnings of manufacturing production workers in California moved up to an all-time high this July, but the workweek continued shorter than a year ago, Albert C. Beeson, director of the department of industrial relations, announced recently. Record hourly earnings of $3.29 were up a penny from June and 12 cents from July 1966, Beeson noted, Slow Cars Should s e@ Remain on Right . The California Highway Patrol is renewing its effort to move slower traffic to the right on multilane highways throughout California, according to Lt. A. S. Axton of Grass Valley Area, "Many motorists don’t seem to realize there is a state law which requires them to maintain their speed at the speed of traffic in the land in which they are driving, or drive to the right as far as practicable," the Patrol’s local commander said, "This is the law behind the signs that read ‘Slower Traffic Keep Right’ and the Patrol intends to enforce that law. "I would suggest that motorists drive as far to the right as they can and still maintain the speed at which they wish to travel," he said, "No matter what lane a motorist is in, if he sees traffic backing up behind him and has access to another at his right, he has an obligation and duty to use the further right lane and let those other cars go by him on the left," said the lieutenant, Referring to sitations in which motorists already driving at the maximum limits of 65 or 70 appear to be blocking traffic, he pointed out they are driving legally in respect to this law. "But for safety’s sake, these drivers should move to the right anyway and let the speeders go by so as not to be involved in their law violation," Lt, Axton concluded, The renewed effort has the support of the state legislature, both houses of which passed a resolution noting the hazards created by slow moving vehicles in faster lanes of traffic and urging immediate remedial action, Private Ends Repair Course FT.
