MEDITATION Ist AWARD EILEEN MITCHELL \ ay Phone AXtel 2-3207 Well the fire of two weeks ago is still news out our way, the damage done is becoming more evident as the days goby. The trees are looking deader and its apparant to me at least, that our neck of the woods may not be woods anymore. ++ +e44 It looks like Shorty and Vee Hibbs have a new car. They lost their Station Wagon in the fire. ++ +ee4 =; Doanie and Frank Addleman are building anew pump house, they had to have ‘quite a bit of work done on the pump too. : t++etts One bright spot is Sckoles tells me, and I can see for myself, that the fire leveled about one hundred acres of broom brush for them and they have plans to seed the land right away. I've heard that broom brush is actually stimulated by fire though. and comes back up twice as thick, we'll see. ++eeet Fran Selvester's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kayes, and some friends were up over the weekend for a visit from Fresno. Fran has already canned about 300 quarts of food, she's aiming for 600 and will no doubt make it. +++tese It$ that time of year again . .School. Yippee! But where did the summer go? Its also time for interdistrict agreements and try"NORTH SAN JUA N. F ing to decide whether it will beJunior High or Elementary for the seventh and eight graders. I know kids and parentsthat have changed their minds adozentimes. I dropped into Nevada City Elementary the other day. Oh, it was so exciting, the floors were newly waxed and hadthat good old ship shape aroma. Delicious smells were wafting fromthe cafeteria, someone was playing the piano, beautiful classical pieces then all of a sudden switched into real cool boogie woogie, if thats considered cool by these younger cats. tee ttt e Back toNorth San Juan.. Margaret Perry has had scads of company lately, Tod's brother and family, Mr. and Mrs, David Perry; Mr. and Mrs. Simpkins and granddaughter from back east; Mr. and Mrs. Royer from Mount Shasta; and Mrs Peggy Shaffer from Michigan. Margaret has sold the ranch and will only be with us for about a month. It would be a good idea to get in your visiting with her real soon for she'll be off to Sacramento. The people who have purchased the ranch are named Mr. and Mrs. Becky andthey hail from Alamo?? California. ++ eee Anna McQuinn is back -home after a very long vacation visiting friends and relatives in Oregon and San Francisco. She sure missed a lot. I've heardso many people complain, “nothing ever happens out here” In fact I've been guilty on occasion too. t+tetett Mildred Lusk had fifteen clothing entries in the Fair this year andwon 13 ribbons , nine of which were blue ones. Ho Ho, and now she's off to the Auburn fair. t+ tees Speaking of the fair, our smallest son, Johnnie, aged threeand ahalf, wona second place ribbon in the Junior Horse show in the Tom Thumb Hat Race. : ++ tees Charlene Welker and Frances Milhous drove up to Kings Beach last week to bring back Marcena. The Burt Burda Ranch is sprouting survey stakes and . hear Burt is out of the hospital now. ++et+t++ Ialso hear that The Timmothy Moore family are now proud donkey owners. So are we but I'm not too happy about donkeys unless they're two weeks old. To dress up cookies, cakes and desserts sprinkle tops with colored sugar—quick, easy and inexpensive. First, Camptonville District had the Wolf Creek fire, then the one at North San Juan, and on Aug 27 at about 4 p.m. we had another in the Wolf Creek area. The fire covered about an acre.
