Where All The Kids Will —
Go Is The Big Question —
(Continued from Page 1)
The Ready Springs Union Dis.
trict will open next Monday.
The Washington District started
school last week.
School officials have been
juggling figures for several
weeks now trying to second
guess just what the enrollment
and class loads will be, but it
will be several weeks before the
influx of new students, transfers
and changes settle down enough
to determine firm figures.
County School Superintendent
Edward Fellersen said yesterday
that it was just a guess, but he
anticipated that enrollment
would be up about 150 to 200
students in the 11 elementary
and one high school district in
the western end of the county,
Opening enrollment last year
? forall western districts was
4,675,
With the Labor Day Holiday,
districts are facing a short week
and are using it in most cases to
get students into the proper
classes and courses and straighten out tangles in bus schedules
that always develop in the beginning of the year,
The ttigh 1 District had
© be out of the former
Grats Valley High School Building and have ninth graders
housed in the Ridge Road plant,
but had to keep the students
there this year while plans go
ahead for construction of the *
new classes at Ridge Road,
Grass Valley had hoped to
house students in the old portion
of the old high school building,
but that portion of the building
was declared to be unsafe and
the district had to rent two portable classrooms and put the
first three grades on double sessions,
Both the high school and the
Grass Valley districts are anti4 Cipating enrollment increases.
Some of the rural districts are
anticipating drops in enrollment,
but current and pending road
and dam construction projects
in the area could change the
enrollment pictures in all of the
‘districts rapidly.

hands of Fadel. Although
everyone in town had a different
story at to the current status of
the job this week, neither the
Division of Highways nor the
attorney for the contractor was
willing to make any comments
on the work until the latest
hearing pending beforethe
bankruptcy court.
It was indicated last week that
if the state deemed it advisable
to move in on the job here, in
all probability, the job would
be readvertised on informal cong
tracts and this could be accom
plished in about two weeks after
the state officially took over the

eventually happen when property
