Never mind its title -- Vital Statistics, 1850-1873, Nevada County, California -- there is not a single statistic, vital or otherwise, in this biographical reference book. The book consists of lists of newspaper and other notices of Births and Deaths, Brides and Grooms, Separations and Divorces, Naturalizations and Declarations, and Clergymen.
     "Vital statistics" refers to tallies of births, deaths, marriages, and divorces by categories like place, time, age, sex, cause (of death) and the like -- and incidence rates computed relative to population, among other figures derived from raw tallies. Naturalizations and notices of intent to naturalize, much less ordainments of clergymen or church assignments, are not subjects of "vital statistics" -- though the information in this book may be vital to researchers who stumble across a name of a person of interest.
This book may be regarded as a companion volume to Lives of Nevada County Pioneers and Nevada County News & Advertisements by the same authors.
