vhé Railroad Survey.
W.J. Organ, who has been with R.
L. Harris, Civil Engineer, surveying
theroute for a railroad between this
dity and Marysville, returned on Thursday night. He informs us that Mr.
Harris will be here ina few. days, for
the purpose of finding a route leading
into the town~of Grass Valley. The
new line will be ran from the point already surveyed to Marsh’s reservoir,
near Weir’s ranch. He says there is
no difficulty in bringing the road into
that town by going down by Worthington’s ranch, then around the Coe
mioe, intersecting Main street at any
point from Mill street up, and joining
ov tha route already. surveyed at the
North Star Reservoir. He also informs
us that the cost of the survey of the.
road will be one-third for Yuba county
‘and two-thirds for Nevada county, and.
there is plenty of money in the fund to
“jneet the expenses. The entire dis. .
tance from Nevada city to Marysville,
hy this survey, is 51 miles and 800 feet..
Important to Miners and Farmers.
Through the exertions of Surveyor
Bradley an instruction has been procured from the Commissioner of the
General Land Office, reducing the legal
subdivision of land: from forty acres to
\en acres in -mineral-regions. “This:
permits farmers as well as miners to
make applications for ten acre lots, and
igof the utmost importance to both
parties, This was the very thing that
was wanted to break the dead lock
“that tras so long prevented the settle=
ment of land claims in this county, and
its good effects will seon be seen in the
