A Poker Story.
On one of the steamer that ploughed the waters of the . Mississippi in
days gone by, a quiet party was
deeply immersed one evening in the
mysteiies 0 that somewhat uncertain game called poker. One of the
party, acolonel, or judge, or major—

from the pack with which the game
was being played and laid them on
his knee. The game prozressed, and
the colonel alniost ‘‘raised” his antagenists out of their boots. When
the ‘‘draw” came he threw away his
legitimate five cards, called for one
and reached for the four aces on his
knee They were gone! Rising he
cried in tones of virtuous indignation: ‘Gentleman, this. thing has
gone far enough. There's cheating
