> es NEVADA CITY. (Goutonns) DAILY_TR TRANSCRIPT, TUESDAY, APRIL 11, Sic sasbalas wie * THE DAILY TRANSCRIPT. NEVADA CITY, CAL. ee BROWN & CALKINS, Proprietors, Nevada County Oficial Pr. TUESDAY, AFR 11. THE UNTRUTHS OF “ANTI-MINERS.” Our people have been lied to quite often enough as to the avowed intents and objects of the anti-miners. They have written to every drift and quartz miner of any importance in the State that it was not their intention to interfere in any. way with the drift or quartz miners. Their ob ject isa plain one. Itis simply to divide the miners, and so detract from their strength which they well know would te irresistible if the miners wi'l stand shoulder to shoulder in the attacks apon their iniustry. _Wehave from time to time, warned all miners that. they must not place any reliance upon the as sertions and_promises of the anti“—qniners, or —their—lawyers,—or-—their mouthpieces, the newspapers. We all krow that although they cry out that drift. mioers; will not be attacked, still the fact is and was that they were attacked directly by name in the Keyes suit and in the Marysville suits. ‘The new Mayor of Marysville also echoes the lie that quartz miners will not be attacked, and virtually says that if the quartz miners will only behave themselves, he, the great Mayor of the great city of Marysville, will graciously allow them to work their mines. Butsome fine day, another Mayor might entertain other views, and believing that he could perhaps squeeze the gentle quartz miner in the way proposed to squeeze the miners on Bear River in the Keyes suit, bring suit against them and show that some hundreds of thovsands of tons of impalpable quartz sand are being yearly washed down into the Feather and Yuba rivers, and ask his pet Judge Keyser, or some other equally complacent Judge to enjoin all the quartz mines on these rivers, giving no bond or security of any kind, and keeping these mines closed until the Supreme Court of the State, or possibly of the United States could determine whether or not the quartz miner could work his mine. These idiculious statements of the anti-miners are too thin to deceive any miner of any commun sense, for we all have sense enough to know that it is not the degree of injury committed or amount of tailings washed down into the stream, but it is the right to do-it at all, that is the quection. If A is legally allowed to wash into the river 10,000 tons of tailings per year from his quartz mine, or if B is legally allowed to wash 10,000 tons of tailings from his: drift mine into the river, who shall say that C is also not legally entitled to wash 10,000 tons of tailings from his hydrauli? or placer mine into the same river, It does not remain-with the Mayor of Marysville or any other official or lawyer to decide this question, and when these anti-miuers try to. make us believe that any one kind of ini:.ing can be stopped where water is used or tailings are washed into the streams, we all know that the same “result must follow in all kinds of = mining. It is too thin, Mr. Mayor. Our honest miners will not. swallow your b'arney, they don’t believe a word of it. To prove how utterly insincere these statements are, and how entirely these men falsify the facts, we will repeat the words of our Attorney General, the head and front of the Gold Run suit, so fresh in the minds of ali the miners, This State official, who has seen fit to take sides in this partisan struggle between afew farmers and ‘all the miners of the State, because he came from an agricultural county, used the following words in his argument in the Gold Run case: “AndI say to your Honor that in my judgment, whenever it is dejermined that quartz mining is followed by damaging results, if the officers of this State do their duty, they wil! undertake to test the rights of the quart? miners to do so.” Perhaps the Marysville Mayor and our Attorney General might conclude any day that quartz mining was followed by ‘‘damaging results” aud then what would follow ; why, ‘if a partisan then filled the office of Attorney Geteral the {daho mine, which is a wealthy.and prosperous concern, wonld be attacked. 1st, by injunction from a partisan Judge “who would tie 1t up effectually for an unlimited time, and then a suit would follow, which, like the Gold Run suit would cost them ‘$75,000, with no possible hope of redress if they gained the suit ;~for the State is the attacking party and not responsible, We commend the words-of -< -our . bill,“ a as-. the White House, unless it be the Attorney General as above recited to the careful consideration of our quartz miners, and if after this avowal they still believe the hes of . the anti-miners;;they are Feater . 2 dunces thar we think they are. MOR A ee OUR EXCHANGES. Malf Minute Interviews With the Chiefs of the Sanctum. (8S. F. Daily Exchange.]} We hope the ‘sublime idiots who are burning and hanging effigies of President Arthur in various hamilets throughout the State are satisfied with.their work. It is such a digai. 748 fied—such a seemingly way, of expressing their dissatisfaction. And it goes so far to convince the Eastern mind of the justice: of our cause. and of our earnestness. It likewise spect of Eastern people for California end her people, and confirms so completely her faith in their good sense. Oh! yes, go on by all means. Let the President's effigy be henged and .burned at every hamlet and crossroad. Could not his image be also be drawn and quartered, or blown up by bombs? There is nothing like a suggestion of dynamite to terrorize awful threat_referred to elsewhere, of-an-insurrection-atSusanville ‘8S. F. Post.] The success with which the bunko sharps swindled Charles Frencis Adams, inducing him to give them sundry checks ffor largé sums of money, gives assurance to the country that we have at least one less available candidate for the presidency then before. Now, if some equally adroit operators will beguile uncle Sammy Tilden, Horatio Seymour and a few other ancient and venerable possibilities, the list of available candidates will be further gratifyingly reduced. There is_yethope fcr the perpetuity of our institutions, {S. F. Report. } When the manufacturers of this city. imported coolies and taught them the trades, they chuckled over the good thing they had struck in securing a cheap and tractable labor. After a while, when the Chinese had mastered the trades, they set up. for themselves in competition with their gan to sing a different tune and join in the popular feelings against the Chinese. {S.
