“PUESDAY, APRIL 17.
NOT TOO FAST,
The miners chose Judge Temple to
try the Gold Run case, and they
know the result; and when these
Bloomfield suits were brought in the
United States Circuit Court, the Nevada TRANSCRIPT, which, nore than
any other paper in the State, is the
organ of the hydraulic miners, said
in its issue of September 24th:
“Witt Tury Grow.?—Hon, Lorenzo Sawyer, United States Circuit Judge, who caused the papers
to be issued in the case of raft
vs. North Bloomfield Co. et al., is
an old resident of this city, and
knows all about hydraulic mining.
He is one of the most distinguished
jurists in the State, and the miners
are well satisfied to rest their case in
his hands, bat we presume the antiminers will commence kicking when
they come to find out he is nota
thoroughbred granger. Whatever
Judge Sawyer’s decision may be,
the anti-miners will not be satisfied,
as they never are unless a Judge
says point blank, ‘all hydraulic
mining must be stopped.’ ”’
No; they won't. growl; it is. the
other fellows that seem to growl
now. But what can these hydraulickers expect from the Courts? The
law, ent, civilization, everything is against their vandalism, aud
Parsee-like, they should learn to
submit with grace tothe inevitable.
The foregoing is an editorial from
the Sacramento Bee of Saturday.
Our. esteemed contemporary should
take care lest it repeat some of the
errors of too-previousness that it has
made in the past, For instance, it
rejoiced exceedingly over the Temple decisioa ‘when first delivered,
and several days elapsed before it.
discovered that it had been most
badly whipped and the miners had
achieved just what they were secking for. Judge Sawyer’s decision is
all right, as far it goes, Mr. Bee.
You did not get your temporary in~~ Janction, and we don’t believe you
will ever get.a permanent one from
.80 just andimpartial and intelligent
acourt. You may have your own
“way in Keyser’s Temple of Justice,
and perhaps it is not strange or unnatural that he should see the situation through your spectacles; but
wheu you get into a court like the
one where you now find yourself,
even the bluster, and conceit of a
Cadwalader are not. powerful enough
to make an unjust cause prevail.
Meanwhile, dear neighbor, contiune
to amuse yourself by self-gratulation
over the way things are going. We
would-like to join you, but really we
are too busy washing out a million
doflars’ worth of gold bullion per
month from the gravel. channels up
this way, to stop just now. We will
’ be through with this work in acentary or so, and then we will be with
you.
THAT FAIR.
We donot hear much about the
Fair that was proposed to have been
held in Nevada county this fall. The
affair if not dead is sleeping very
profoundly and is not even making
a noise by snoring.—Tidings.
Our usually wideawake and publicspirted citizens are the ones who are
roaming in the land:of Nod with regard to this matter, and the first
thing they know they will waken to
discover that the thermometer is
down to zero and they have been
badly left. The people of Placerville
are hard at work endeavoring to secure the prize that we are trifling
with, They have (as we learn from
one of the leading citizens of El Dorrado county who was in San Francisco last week) already raised over $],000 among themselves by subscription, and expect to increase this
amount to about $3,000. They will
also endeavor to secure $2,000. from
the State and then go ahead and hold
the Fair at the same place as heretofore. If El Dorado county gets ahead
of Nevada county thus, as she expects to, it will be quite an unfortunate thing for the latter. Let’s wake
up, fellow citizens, and see if we
can block El Dorado’s little game.
fn an een
Jupcx SawysEr’s decision must
have given the editors of the hydrau» lic miners’ organs the lockjaw, for
they have not opened their mouths
upon the subject since it was given
out.—Bee, :
The hydraulic monitors are doing
considerable «talking about now,
