There will beyond doubt prevail in tre in this city next Friday and Sat-. Central Pacific,
the East this season an ice. famine.— {The price of that useful article has!
already: advanced greatly, and the .
fizures are steadily going still higher.
The Peoples Ice Company, of which
J. S.Thompson of this city is Pregident and Swpermtendent, has on the
eoutzary had a most favorable—season, having in the store houses at
Cuba, on the line of the U. P. Rail—goad,-this -eounty, “about—ten—thouwsand tons above andbeyond. the
amount that will be required to supply the usual demand on ‘this coast.
Arrangenvents are now~being made
by the Company to dispose of the
surplus in the Chicago and St. Louis
markets, where it will find a ready
sale. _ Proposals will not be received
for lots of less than thirty. carluads.
Such.a thing as shipping ice from
California to the East has never been
dreamed of before, and it will probably be many Years before it ovcurs
again.
