The Kok)nx in Rureka. .
A correspondent. writing frem Eureka township informs us ofa series of
outrages perpetrated upon Sherwood
and family, on the Middle Yuba river.
A short time ago the guy ropes of one
of the derricks in his claims were cut,
and Mr. Sherwood. went to work the
next morning, and his oldest son was
engaged in hoisting a load of light
gravel and clay, when the father took
hold of the rup3 attached to the dump
box, the guys gave way, and the béy
was thrown with violence tothe ground,
the heavy mast striking within a few
inches of his head, A few weeks preused to watch the claims, was poisoned.
Atanother time a party, supposed to
be the same ruffians, discharged firearms around Sherwood‘’s house all
night, and one of the bullets passed
into the building, burying itself in the
wall,a few inches above the head of Mra.
Sherwood. Our. correspondent. says :“The perpetrators of these. vile acts assert it was only gravel they used in
their guns, and they wanted to scare
the family, to get their claims to sell
to Chinamen.” There mast be some
perpetrators of these outrages are
knewn they should long since have
been under arrest upon some serious
charge. It would seem impossible to
us that such outrages should be perpetrated and the. matter boldly affirmed
steps being taken by officers of the law
. Rich Suit,
A short time since two men took a
contract to work # quartz ledge. They
were te be allowed $250 per day for
labor, and after deducting the expense,
pay_ten per cent..to the owners-of the}
mine. They were to be allowed to
take out 120 loads, and took out sixty,
which yielded $9,000. \In. the hope ot
renewing the lease they senk some of
the specimens, which. were very rich,
and when it came. time to divide the
specimens aforesaid they were missing
and one of the parties was suspicioned.
Hence a suit was brought fora division
of the spoils. The trickiest one of the
two it seems got the pile and refused
to divide, and the law was applied to
force a division.
iP Strike,
tranahan, Rolfe, & Co., at Cement
Hill, have made a: big strike in their
hydraulic claims. These claims were
Aitted up with new flumes, pipe, etc.,
last Fall at heavy expense, for bydr.ulic mining, and the owners went to work
several weeks ago. In nine days, with .
modern appliances, they haye accomplished more than an older company did
by the-expenditare of $50,000 in the
opening of these claims. They havea
geod face on the bank, and from two
pans of dirt, washed for.the purpose of
prospecting the gravel, they took out
ten dellars, They have a large scope
of ground and the prospect of the biggeet kind of pay.

Mauy, many people suffer from they know
not what. They are not sick—they are not
well. There ig no name for it. It is simply
weakness—a breaking down of the vita)> forces. Whatever its causes, [and they are innumerable,] its symptoms are in the aiain the
same. Among the most prominent are exAnd great mental depression, Indigestion
anda stomach cough are-also frequently ¢oncomitants of this distressing etate of body and
ofmind. The cotamon remark jin relation to
Persons in such 4 condition is,. that they are
consumptive. Now, what these unfortunates
really want is vigor, vital strength ; and. as
certainly as dawn succeeds darkness, they can
recuperate their systems and regain perfect
health by resorting to Hostetter’s Celebrated
Stomach Bitters, It is as clear that a life re~
viving tonic ig required in such cases, as that
the dyfng flame of an empty lamp requires to
be revived with a newsu pply ef oil. Perfect~
ly pure end innocuous, containing nething
but the most genial vegetable extracts, and
combining the three grand elements of a
stomachic, an alterative, and a genia) )nyvigorant. Hostetter’s Bitters are suitable toall
constitutions, and are a» applicable to the diseases and disabilities of the feébler sex as to
