We examitied on Tuesday evening? ‘at Fisher’s machine shop, one of his . lmrge size. machines, which he calls the ~ Hydraulic Chief and Knuckle Jvint. Nowle” It was made for a mining . company at Smartsville, and was sent down yesterday morning. It weighs about one thousand pounds, is intend. ed to throw'a seven-inch stream, and about seven hundred inches of water according to the Smartsville measurement, which is equal to about a thoneand inches here. The Hydraulic Uhief enables one man to manage and govern such a large body of water under a 200-fdot” re. We tan not well deseribe the machine, but we may remark briefly, that the nozzle is governed by means of a lever projecting some ten or twelve feet to the rear of the joint, so: that, besides the advantage.of great leverage, the operator is gome twenty feet further from the bank i case of a cave. The large size machine of this kind costs $300. Valuable Map.
