E. Kerrison were selected as and J. C. Birdseye, Timer. At the first heat th in front of the stand sind the word was given. Humboldt immediately broke into a run which he kept up until he fok the pole.— Dennison pulled out and endeavored. to force the pace, but it was evidect that the mare had the wrong foot foremost, and though she did not break still she ‘could not close the 4p, which wag two lengths at the balf mile; this increased to three in the upper turn, and Humboldt came home aa easy winner of the heat. Time 2:48, At the second heat the. start was effected ‘with lesa trouble. Humboldt started off judges, was unable to regain the position. At the hatf mile Humboldt tad put a length and a half of daylight between them. From there out both horses trotted finely. Through fort for the beat, but to no effect, Humboldt winning by three-fourths of a length in 2:46. To the third heat the drivers changed, a well known sporting gentleman handling the ribbuns overthe mare. . The tactics changed also. Instead of the rushing for the start, both drivers were overcautious. and -each seemed to excel the other in their wish to come up trotting aquarely. A good send off was finally obtuined, but the vim was all out of the mare, and though the amateur driver made a gallant attempt for the heat it was useless, Humboldt winning by a good length in 2:454.
