Grasshoppers,
Our territorial exchanges are filled
with accounts ef the devastations of
the. grasshoppers. © They have been
more ‘disastrous than the heavy
floods which have so greatly in jured
the crops of Indiana, Illinois and
other States. All the larger valleys
of Utah, Colorado, Dakotah and
Montana, which si# weeks ago gave
assurance of abundant crops, have
been swept clean by this annual
pest, and theit entire population will
be-compelled te import flour for their
duily use.The papers say that unless some remedy.can be found for
this continual scourge, and that
speecily, the district infested by it
will be abandoned, and a virtual end
willcome to the continued settlement of a very large and important
portion of the country. No industry inthe country where it exists,
escapes its share of misfortune and
discouragement i in cobsequence of it.
