Washinston Mining District.
~ Says the Grass Valley Union of yesterday: Alf. Tregido, who is superintendent of the Washington afd Blue
Bell quartz mines in . Washington
district, and who was in town yesterday, spoke well of the mining outlook
of that section of the, county. He
said beside the mines “under his superintendence the Yuba mine was
running regularly, making the ;: omber of stamps constantly going at 45,
and that there is a likelihood of the
Eagle Bird mine starting up again this
“season, which would add twenty more
pecting work going on all the time,
and the district is receiving much attention from mining men, as although
the ‘ores are generally of low grade
the lodes are large, and water power
‘affords chezp milling facilities. The
“ mines now operating ere doing well,
————— as ores only yielding $6 and $8 can be
milled and mined ‘at a good profit.
—we—_ There is no. question that the Eagle
Bird is’a valuable mine, and its present idleness is owing to the unbusinesslike methods on which it was conducted, and not from the nnproductiveness of the mine.
The Jeffreys-Lewis Engagement.
In speaking of Miss Jeffreys-Lewis
who will appear at this city Tuesday
evening, the New Orleans Picayune
says: ‘‘Miss Lewisin her rendition
of the role of La Belle Russe seems to
have thorcughly mastered all the in-.
tricate interpretations of those grand
passsions which are said to be the predominating influences which govern
tresses who lend lustre tothe American . .
stage. Added-tothe singular beauty
of her face and form, she possesses
any and which is equaled by few.
The conception and portrayal of character are original and at the same time
must not be considered extravagant
when it is asserted the Miss Lewis is
such an actress as is seldom seen in
this city.’” Miss Lewis is. supported
