NEVADA CITY, CAL. LOCAL APFATRS. < More Rich Rock. Last Spring Curry and Blum discovered, in working a ledge located about two and a half miles. from town, near Rush Creek, some very rich rock, out of which they got several thousand dollars in.a very short space of time. They worked ont the ‘richest part of the-rock as they supposed, and Mr. Blam sold his interest. to T. C. Randall, who, in cdOm“pany with Mr, Carry, has continued prospecting up to the present time, ~ most of the time, we ee Aoing dead work. This week' they went back to the. point the rich Teck was taken out beforé, and commenced . stoping, when they discovered that: they had run across and over the ‘ledge, and that on the back side of the shaft it continues as rich as ever. They took out $300 in about ah hour after they discovered the fuct, and Shave in all taken out about. $1,500 during ‘the few days’ siacé they struckthe deposit, The ledge is three feet thick, and through the center is.a streak of rock composed mostly of gold. “ How far. it rans they do not know, as they h: ive not drifted much since they found it, They have taken ont thgee tons of rock, besides the rich specimens,. and it looks rich enough to pay sevetal hundred dollars to the ton. . When they quit the place last Summer they were not over a foot from the present rock. Mr. Curry informs us that the appearaneées of the ledge indicates that the deposit is extensive. Somo of ,the specimens “are composed almost wholly of gold, and enough isin sight to guarantee a good stake to the enterprising and persevering owners. A New Enterprise, A ‘short time since a’ gentleman from San Francisco came to this city for thé purpose of testing’a new kind of explosive which he had invented, He called upon Walrath and Hunter, of the Providence mine, and those gentlemen, always ready as they are'to mpke experiments with any improvements: in mining, took him to their’mine and afforded him every facility to test the efficiency of his diseovery, After repeated experiments, all ef which were more than satisfactory, they concluded arrangements with the inventor to start) a manufactory of the article in this eity, and will, in a short time, have things ready for work. The new material is more efféctive than giant powder, and possesses the advan-, ‘tage of being free from the sickening odor that is found in the smdke of that powder, and besides it can be fired with either caps or fuse, as occasion requires. It issafer too, than either giant or black powder, and will without doubt soon supersede both. The starting of such an enterprise in our midst ought to be a matter of congratulation, us it will add matefially to the resources of the place. oe re Auction To-day. Frank Guild will have an auction at his store, on Broad street, to-day, commencing ‘at 10 o’clock, a. m.
