time nothing was noted of unusual
character as @ Yesult. and although
severe! months have since elapsed it
was only when the recent cold weather commenced that any extraordinary symptoms. followed, One night
last week the lady had occasion to.
enter a dark room and pick up a
woolen coat thatwas lying there: As
she did. so, she was both surprised
and frightened to observe @ bright
light surrounding the hand that held
the garment. At the same time
electric currents. passed along the
arm, shocking her quite severely.—
’ When her husband was informed of
the fact he discredited ‘its reality,
thinking there was more imagination
than anything else init. So the next
evening to convince the incredylous
better half, she turned the gas out in
the room where they were sitting,
and letting her hair down began combing it. A remarkable display ‘of light
was-the result. The sparks flew in

sharp, cracking sored as the teeth of
the comb passed between the hairs.
In laying her -hands the
lady does not. observe the peculiarities referred to ; but the instant she
touvhes woolen cloth the fire begins
to fly, and the shocks follow one
another in rapid succession.

The Comparative Outlook of Last
Yeur and Now.
Theve: is an ev ident disposition on
the part of the population to force
themselves into believing that the
prospects for plenty of water are not
so good this year as they were last.
By a comparison of the meteoroloyical records then and now; however,
it is “found there exist no grounis
for such ideas. In 1877 there {all
but 5.68 inches of water. before ecember 17th, at which time: the
storms set in in earnest. Up t» the
lithinstant we have had 6.7¢ imeh1.02 incl.es -in
favor of this year as cora: ared
with last. There is as much snow
at the Summit. now as then,
and othercircumstances «re likewise favorable for plenty of water
this year, Taking everything into
. consideration, there is good j mospect
ahead for a favorable mi aing season.
As to the temperature oi 4877 and
1878, this season is found, io be much
the coldest by referring t» the carefully kept daily reports of the South
Yuba Canal Company in «heir office
here. For that week er d ng December 15th, 1877, the sha le thermometer at: noon indicates .
temperature of abo
zero; while this year, for the week
ending Sunday last, it showed a
little less than 47 de :rees.

More Antmal Shooting.
There seems to be asort of mania

for that offense and now Rough &

Attorney Gaylord went to that
place yesterday to try aman in Justice Melbonrne’s court for shooting a
