We think the passage ofsuch a bill: would
be premature: The legislation of the State is

Legislature ja held without a modification of

Statute book, The probabilities are that in
five years from this time many ‘provisions of
which are in constant-ise now, will be com-~
pletely metamorphosed. No State inthe
Unionhas ever had her laws codified at so ear~ dy day in her history, for the reason that ft ree
quires. time to bring legislation to that state
of perfection which will ensure the succesfal
. operation of every department of governnent, :
The probabilities are that ifthis law-passes,
in five or ten yeara the same work will have
to be dene again at about the same expense
which the Senate bill new proposes to incur.

several townships and the said several clerks
thereof, shall within thirty days alter-thepassage of this vet, deliver over to the anid

Board, all township books, records, bonds
and papers, property assets and effects, of
‘every description whatever, heretofore had
and kept by them by virtue of their offices.
And all books containing records of estrays,
of marriages, birtha and deathe, bills of sale,
and chattel murtgayes, shall be forthwith deposited in the custudy of. the Recorder of
said county, to be kept by said Revorder
among the official records of aaid county:
Section Four. The county Recorder of
said county is hereby authorized and raquirs
ed to grant-certified copies of such records
to hy porson or persons upon payment of

certified copies of the same, may be read and
used in-evidence in all Courts of Justice, in
civil and criminal eases, with like authority
