wellknown Virginian, who was a member
of the general assembly of 1876 or ’78,
and it was related as an actual fact. The

relation to internal improvements and
the measure, and strongly expressed himself in opposition to having a “perfect net
work of railroads in Virginia.” He had
a fondness for appealing to the traditions
of the past, and urging his con/reres in the
house to stick to the old landmarks. In
