Witar WILL “He Boys Ddo?—In
view of the action taken by some of the
Trades’ Unions in directing that no
appren tices shall be employed it becomes
a serious question, what are the boys
who are growing up in the country to
do? These Trades Unions appear to be
carrying their selfishness s little too far
when they declare that no boys shall
be employed in certain occupations, and
that in others the number employed
shall be limited. The great trouble
is that‘toofew of the boys are learning
useful'trades and too many of them
are growing up in‘idleuess,’ Tyg leara—
ing of trades instead of being prohibited,
sheald be encouraged, and if necessary,
the Legislature, sheuld protect the boys
who desire to learn tradés ‘from the
_effects of the probibitory acts of Trades.
Unions by. law. Any set of mechanics
have just as much right to say that no
workmen ‘in their trades shall come to
this State, as they have to prohibit boys
from-going o work ‘for the ‘purpose < of}
learning trades,

‘Roberts, of Nevada and Senator ‘furner,

vote was taken: om the Hall-Garrison

to recgrd their votes against it; Of
course these votes, under sucli circum
stances, had no effect upon the result,
but ‘ad these gentlemen been in their
seats, and so voted, the bill would have
been defeated. They both say that
théir absence was unavoidable, and
Mr. Turner states that after the” bill
was fixed for a special order of a certain
day it Was clinhged without. his knowledge. Mere private business should
not excuse ‘embers for absence, for
the reason that the friends of stich
swindies as the Hall-Garrison claim are
alway 08 thé alért, .and ever ready to
take talt opponents at dishdvantage.
