Justice Frevp has, it is said, decided to enter the lists against
Henley for the control of the California patronage. The ‘fight at
the Stockton Convention has been
transferred to Washington. That
Convention instructed the delegates from California to the Democratic National Convention at
Chicago to vote against Field, and
the Justice, it is asserted, has determined to be revenged upon his
enemies. Pacific coast gossips in
Washington say that Field has
served notice upon Henley that

In England where gold coin is
used a great deal, there is a loss of
about £56,000 a year by mere detrition: Somebody proposes to
save this by putting a-ring of a

only cutting would take it off. It
is thought that by this device the
life of coins would be doubled,
although the sides would still be

Sheree, Seaiars
In. begianing the year 1885, we desire«to briefly
out some’ of the things that have so far contributed
constant aim has been to offer such inducements to
the buying public that they-find it to their own interest to trade with ‘us, and the large patronage we
have been favored with shows that our efforts have
not been thrown away. The four pillars upon which
we Have built our business are
Justice,
Impartiality, 7
One Frice,
Absolute Satisfaction.
We have endeavored to keep at all times not only
the largest and most complete assortment of Dry
Goods, Fancy Goods: and Millinery, but the Most
Fashionable and Freshest of everything in these
lines to be found in the wholesale market.
In fixing prices on our goods
WE DO NOT ASK OURSELVES
“How muck will the people be willing to pay” for
this or that article?
BUT THE QUESTION IS,
“How small a matgin can we add to the cost price
and yet do a safe business?”
We know we have been successful in building up
a large trade that is not confined to Nevada City;
but extends to the surrounding country. _ We do no;
believe this could have been done without a strict
observance of the rules that govern our business
methods.
Thankful for the liberal patronage extended us
during 1884, we confidently hope that it will be accorded to us by the appreciative and discriminating
buyers dnring the year 1885.
Yours Respectfully,
MRS. LESTER & CRAWFORD.
