LOCAL AFFAIRS.
House Thieves. Around.
It has been generally believed by
pur -people—those who are—posted—
that there is a gang of outlaws in our
midst, who are-prepared to break into houses or stores, where money or
valuables are kept. A few weeksago
the house of Mr. Crosman was broken
jnto, but nothing of value-was stolen.
About 2 a’clock yesterday morning
an attempt was made to enter the
residence of Wm. H. Davidson.—

The grandest and most elegan
goods ever brought to the. Pacific
coast, were received. by Rosenberg
Bros. yesterday. They are gay,
rich, unique, and withal will be sokl
cheaper than they can be bought in
New York. ~All they ask of the ladies
of this city and county is, to call and
id
pique, corsets, kid gloves, ladies’ and
misses’ shoes, calicos, laces, embroideries, trimmings, domestic goods,
carpets, oil cloths, mattings, etc., all
being of the very latest styles, having
just arrived from the East. RosenAt-the above hour, Mrs. Davidson
pie bythe ight Ta the tee no. the fight deterroom, and on looking at ‘the window, discovered that the curtain had
been pulled up, the window open,
and a robber in the act of getting intotheroom. Thé thief had one foot
on the floor inside the room and the
other resting on the porch. She
awoke Mr. Davidson, but as soon as
the robber foutid he was discovered
he made tracks just as fast as his
kind usually do.. Our people will do
well to keep their doors not. only
locked but bolted, and besides that,
itis advisable to have some kind of a
deadly weapon nearat hand. If Davidson had had a revolver, there
vould in all probability have been a
funeral. — coe!

treat, rarely offered outside of the
Cathedrals in our largest city. The
sermon will be preached by Rev.
Father Claire, at 104% o’clock,—a:-™.

What Spring Brings With It.
Regarded froma medical standpoint,
Spring is not the delectable season described
by vernal poets. On the contrary, its yield
of intermittent fevers, bilious attacks, rheumatic pains, diserders of the stomach, nervous complaints, and pulmonary diseases,
is almost as large as its crop of violets,
snowdrops and cherry blossoms. The invisible seeds of innumerable maladies rise
withthe mortiing mists, and are séattered
broad cast-by the vapors of night.—Who-can

them to cope with the unhealthy influences
by which they are surrounded.
The only medicinal agent by which this
object can be rapidly and safely accomplish

operation of this celebrated specific is fourfold. It strengthens the digestive organs,
regulates the secretions, improves the condition of the blood,, superinduces a regular
habit of bedy, and thereby imparts such
vigor and elacticity tothe whole physical
structure as to render it capable of resisting
the action of the poisonous miasma, with
which the Spring atmosphere is always to
some extent impregnated. Here, then, isa
ready and certain means of escaping the
disorders prevalent at this season, or (if
they have already fastened upon the system) of conquering them speedily and thoroughly. The flavor of a medicine is not of
much consequence, provided it does its
work properly, but of Hostetter’s. Bitters it
may be fairly said, that they effect a cure
without outraging the patient’s sense of
taste. :
