The party starved out on two lines. One from’ the foot of Broad street along Peck’s ravine and. through , by Hoghes’ ranch, The other staiting point was out near J. N. Turner’s residence from which a survey was made by other parties several yearsago. Itis thought that a rvad of easy yrade can be gotten to Grass Valley, of between five and six miles in length. — As soon as the survey is made to the Valley the party will start to Colfax and after ascertaining the elevation tebe.avercome will commence running the line. 4 The parties who have taken thia matter in hand,’are thoroughly acquainted with rail road building, and are coufident that they can establish the feasibility of the project, and demonstrate that it will be a payingroad. Sucharvad would be of inealculable benefit te Grass Valley, Nevada, and the country lying nerth. ‘These towns are daily becoming mere prosperous as the. . great wealth of the mines is being developed: Easy and cheap communication with San Francisco would be a great advautage to them. We hope the railruad men will find sufficient encouragement te induce them to build the road. 4 HYDRAULIC MINING.—The Manzanita Hill claims were started yesterday. morning. Maltman & Co. have water enough . : in their own ditch, and several large streams are playing against the bauk. Work is started on these claims unusually early. and as they are among the best in this vicinity, during the present season. We understand that Williamson & Co., owners of the Lost Hill claims, will resume workin afew days. Last season these claims, which had been unworked for six or eight years, were fitted up at an expense of frem four to five thousand dollars. So much time wae consumed in fittiog up and cleaning out the diggings, that the season was gone before enough washing was done to test them fully. Thies Winter the claims can be worked to the best advantage, and we have no doubt they will prove exceedingly valuable. We learn that on Geld Flat, wherg are located some of the best hydraulic claims in the county, several companies ure already “piping” and others are almost ready. The preseat storm surprised mauy ‘miners by coming upon thew earlier thun usual and before they were prepared. These-are actively engayed in preparing their claims so as to take advuntuge of the abundant, suply of water as early as possible. At Moore's Flatand all the way down the Ridge to French Corral, water is abundant and everybody is busy. “A Hvee Bino.—We saw yesterday at the shop of Z. Davis, thé wing of a bird, recently shot by S. Stevens in Plumas county. The feathered giant is said to be of the egpdor family, aud measured eleven feet from tip to tip of the wings. ReTurnep.—Nat. Bailey, well known as the ‘host of the Bailey House an this city, arrived in town on ‘Tuesday from Idaho, where he has been sojourning fur nearly two years.
