fevada City, Nevada County, , CALEPORNIA. : PRR ANNUM...0------+++:; $7.00 esnreen mn —— SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1886. ABOVE THE FOG BELT.Parties sojourning here from the coast regions and southern portions of the State have expressof the recently published pamphlet relative to the climate and resources of Nevada county had. 80 little to say about our immunity . from the fog which is so disagree. ably-prevalent in other portions of the State. The criticism is just, as it is a matter of mach surprise that so important an influ-. ence on the healthfulness of the climate should be overlooked, ‘or, rather ignored, by those who seek to publish to the world the climatic advantages which we enjoy. Peoplé who are suffering with depressed vitality from any cause, either throat or lung affections, or other bodily ailments, find by experience that the climate of the foothilis has a tendency to increase the circulation of the blood, to give the: skin a ruddy color, and toincrease muscular development, in marked contrast to the depressing effect of the foggy regions of the Coast. Here we have the full beneficial effect of the sunlight from sunrise till sunset, while in the fog belt the sun is often obscured for half the day by acold fog, and during the other halfthe sun comes out so hot as to produce an enervating shock upon all delicate constitutions. The only way we ¢an account for so important an omission from the pamphlet as the one ahove referred to is the fact that we know so little of the fog up here in the its deleterious effect on debilitated constitutions. Had the compiler of the pamphlet lived within the fog belt for a term of years he would doubtless have been better informed about the real -advantage of living in the foothills above the fog belt. Fa) NEVADA COUNTY LANDS. i _ ‘Through. the agency of the Nev— ee ale Douay aad and Improve: ment Association, great good is being accomplished in the way of securing the development of the cultural resources of this most favored portion of California. Thousands of acres of land that have heretofore been utterly neglected are being brought under cultivation by thrifty and experienced fruit. growers and farmers who have had their attention ditected this way by ~the efforts of the Association, and fine farms, orchards, vineyards and gardens are growing up in all directions. "In no r portion of the State where there is soil of equal fertility and.so delightful a climate, can land be purchased as cheaply as here. Unimproved _ properties _. bighest degree of prodaciion in a Se comparatively short time and con: veniently situated in regard to ‘rail~~. road communication may be had _ st from $3 fo $7 an acre, while improved lands are correspondingly cheap.
