BROWN & CALKINS, Proprietors.

EDITOR. BUSINESS MANAGER.
aoe RNnNED
TUESDAY EV’NG, DEC. 22,,1891,
SIERRA CITY MINING MENTION.
Items of Interest From Last Saturday's
“Messenger.”
The Salinas & Mercer Co, are pushing
their tunnel ahead, and stoping out rock
for their mill. 5
The Cleveland Co. employ fifteen men.
Their twelve stamp mill is running, and
the ore is said to be. paying well,
Water has frozen and the.ditch recently broke at the Marguerite quartz mine,
causing temporary stoppage. of work.
Ten stamps are running at the Colombo, where good paying rock is, being
milled and eighteen men are employed.
A full crew is working at the Young
America, and the mill is crushing ore.
The prospect is very favorable for a prosperous future.
The Wm. Tell Co. have completed
their 300-foot. contract, and the ledge
widening, another of 50 feet has been let.
Four men—two shifts—are working.
The Butte Saddle G. M. Co. are pushing their main tunnel ahead for the second pay chute that may be reached at
most any time, according to the surface croppings. i
The Chips Co. were working twenty
ie before the late cold snap, but not so
y since on account of scarcity of
water. Their twelve-stamp mill is running. A full crew is on the pay-roll.
The Chinese who ‘bonded the 1,001
drift mine for five years have obtained a
good prospect. The leadis over one
hundred feet wide. The claim will be
put in thorough working order at an expense of about $5,000. A flume costing
$6,000 is to be laid at the head of Deer
Creek, s1x miles frem their diggings.
The Mountaineer Co. are running their
tunnel for 4 second ore chute. Six men
are busy. Their ten-stamp mill is running. As far as the ledye has been followed (75 feet) the sulphurets have been
black, very similar to those of the Young
America. Two hundred feet. more of
tunnel.will bring the face under the second pay chute, ¥
The-Sierra Battes Co. have strpok
another pay chute in No. 2 tunnel, and
their ten-stamp mill up on the side of the
mountain is steadily crushiug ore. If
this chimney continues going down
quartz therefrom Will be eventually caroried out ef Nos.8 and 9 tunnels to be worked in No. 9 mill, where forty stamps remain in view of profitable future operations. Mr. Thomas has charge of the
property.
-The No. 3 tunnel, at the’ Mountain
Mine, is being pushed ahead, and a large
chute of pay ore has been discovered, av~eraging from ten to thirty feet in width.
« Messrs. Flint and. Parker have the conbf eveyone Nin +e 1
Soon as Spring opens a big trew Sraneh
will be put en to” Fin” the” forty-stamp
mill. . Sierry City people are very much
rejoiced over the favorable outlook for
this promising mining property. James
~ Hagerty; --general--manager, sees that"
work. is energetically and advantageously prosecuted during the temporary absence of Geo. M. Pinney in Mexico,
Ten stamps are crushing at the Phenix. Therock averages eight dollars a
ton. Twenty men are empldyed. The
tunnel is 700 feet long. One chimney is
being worked 600 feet. Seventeen tons
of ore are crushed daily.
Was News to Him.
Peter Martinetti, one of the popular
young men of Derbec, was recently charged in this paper with being about to
marry. Mr Martinetti over his own signature denies the softimpeachment. He
says: “I wish to state that it is news to
me. I would feel obliged if your informants would quit meddling with my business, but if they won’t, let them sign their
names hereafter.”

The jury trial of Jack Granville on a
charge of battery on Ed Long took place
last evening in Justice Mulloy’s court and
resulted in his acquittal. The complainnig witness failed to appear. The evidence was that Long tried te make a woman known as Nellie drink some liquor,
and that Granville gave him a gentle
shove which caused him to fall over because he was so drunk.
