WARNING TO CAMPERS,
Damages by Fire Where Done by Care1 is a Misd .
One of the amended sfatutes of the last
session of the Legislature provides a severe penalty for setting fires without due
precaution to prevent the destruction of
property, and if the Act is strictly obeyed
there will less damage to grain fields.
The Act not only applies to those camping out, but to all persons who start a
fire that causes damage as will be seen’ by
the following:
“Every person whostarts a fire in haye
stubble, or grass, without first carefully
providing, by plowing or otherwise, for
the keeping of said fire within and. upon
which it is started or set out; and by
reason of non~providing of said barrier
any property of any adjoining contiguous
resident or owner is-injured, damaged or
destroyed, is guilty of a misdemeanor.”
Resigned.
Geo, Nivens, who hasbeen the faithful
telegraph man for a long time, has resigned his position as operator for the Western Union Telegraph-Company. He left
on the train today to take a. position in
one of the Southern -Pacifie— R. -R. Co.'s
offices, . The many friends of George sin‘cerely regret his departure, but yet they
do not blame him for packing up his
wearing apparel and seeking employment
elsewhere. The bloated monopoly changed the telegraph office here from a salaried
to a small commissioned office—and that
is why George seeks pastures new.

Who Has That Dog?
Last Sunday morning, while Preacher
Chisholm was attending to his religious
duties Yn the Church, his little black and
tan pup either strayed away upon his own
responsibility, or some one stole him.
‘Who has ‘got that dog? He is wanted at his home. If he was stolen
the thief had better hring him back. _ If
the animal strayed away a reward will be
paid for his return. The pup must be

A Big Ledge. :
M. M. Cole, at Washington Creek, 14
miles above the town of Washington, has
struck a 20-foot ledge. Various assays
have been made of the rock, and they
show beyond a doubt that it will mill
not less than $5 per ton. Considering
. the extent of the ledge and the low cost of
working it, the strike is regarded as-very
mportant.

Going Before‘the Board.
There is an ordinance against using
terra cotta pipes in any dwelling or businéas placoin this city, but no one pays
the least attention to the aforesaid ordinance. Several dwetlings have been destroyed on account of the terra cotta
pipes, and we understand that'the insurance . companies, through their local
agents, will, at thenext meeting of the
Board of City Trustees, ask that the
ordinance be rigidly enforced.
