LYACHING IN Berre County.—The
Marysville papers of April 3d, all contain an account of a lynching affaii
which recently took place at Bangor in
Butte county, in which thiee men wee
hung. From the hewspaper accounts,
it does not seem that the guilt of the
parties hung was clearly estal.lished.
We copy the following account of the
affair from the Marysville Express:
From Mr. Mallon, of Foibestown, we
. learn that thiee «f the four men who
were arrested at Long Bar Ferry, aud
4 liought to this city on the 31st ult., f.em
whence they were sent the next day to
Bangor, have been executed by the
people of that place. The ci.cumstaices, as near as they could te ascertained, were as follows: Ic will be :ecollect
ed that they were accused of shooting
and robbing Chinamen, and were seu:
up to be examined before a Justice of
the Pezee, who had issued a warrant fo:
their apprehension. ‘They had bee:
examined and held to answer, and were
placed in charge cf the Coustable at
Bangor, and the Sheriff sent for.
P 5 re .
On Thursday morning, some time between the time «f two ard fou o’eh ex
Berguson, one of ‘Le four, succecded in
withdiawing his hancs fiom the haneeuffs, after which he liierated the rest.
They then possessed themselves ef the
Constable’s pistol—in what manne: we .
did not learn—and attempted to make
their escape. The alaim was jr mptly
wiven, and the people pursued aud soon: é
rus us that a Coroner's jury had bee:
atled, aud the 7 “found
hanging on an oak tree,” but the parties
