NEVADA DEMOCRAT. WEDNESDAY MORNING, FEB. 8, 1860. County Surervisors.—The Board of Supervisors met on Monday—all the members being present. The quarterly report of the County Physician was examined and approved. The bids for taking care of the indigent sick were epened. Only two bida were made: Dr. C. T. Overton proposed to take care of the sick for seventy-five cents a day, in cash, or scrip sufficient to make up that amount, and Dr. R. M. Hunt proposed to provide for the patients at the rate of one dollar a day, payable ia scrip on the indigent sick fund. There being little or no difference in the two bids, at the rate the scrip is now selling, the bid of Dr. Hunt was accepted by the Board. On Tuesday, the Board were engaged io transacting miscellaneous business,—examining accounts and petitions, renewal of licenses for toll bridges, etc., etc. The resignation of G. W. Tallman, Justice of the Peace for Washington township, was accepted, and Calvia Hall was appointed to fill the vacaney, ia accordance with the petition of numerous residents of the township. The Board will probably dispatch the business before them and adjourn this afternoon, ” Nothing has been done with road matters dui ring this session, as it is not yet known what Jaw will be in force for this county, during the eoming year. A special session will have to be held during the latter part of the month to traneact unfiuished business. Hosrirat Marrers.—From the quarterly report of the County Physician, Dr. R. M. Hunt, we learn that thirty-four patients have been admitted into the county hospital within the past three montbs, thirty-five bave been discharged, and three bave died, leaviog seventeen still under treatment. At the beginning of the year, when Dr. Hunt took charge of the hospital there were fifteen patients under treatment. An-examining of the several quarterly reports show that the average number of patients under treatment during the year was about twenty-two, and the total cost of their care a little over $9,400, which is some $5,000 lese é than the amognt expended for hospital purposes during the year ending in February 1859. Under the present contract, provided the number e of patients do not increase, the cost for the comoe ing year will be in the neighborhood of $8,000. About one-third of the patients treated during the past year, were injured in mining claims, and the most common diseases are billious aod typhoid fevers, rheumatism, sore eyes, ete. Txrus or Courts.—Mr, C. F. Smith has in3) troduced a bill into the Assembly, to fix the terms of the County Court and Court of Sessions of Nevada county. The bill provides that the regular terms of the County Court shall! be held on the first Mondays in January, May gad September; and the regular terms of the Court of Sessions on the first Mondays in March, July and November. At preseot there are six reguby lar terms of these Courts held every year, but ; anit is generally the case that but little busiq ness is trausacted, considerable expense to the county will be saved by the proposed change, and the public interests will be equally as well served, Provision is made for holding special terms whenever the Couuty Judge shall deem it /beeessary, Suicips or « Cursaman.—From the Hydraulic Press, we learn that a Chicaman committed suiA cide, recently, near San Juan, by hanging himself. The deceased owed soine of bis countrymen about $500, which he was unable to pay. Troubled in mind at his delingueney, at a season when every hovorable Celestial is expected ‘to equare bis accounts, he went off, none knew -whither, until bis body was discovered, hangfog by the neck to the limb of a tree in the lore wilderness, He had probably been dead about two weeks, Diep 1x Tus Hosritat.—Mr. J. C, Harvey, an attorney at law, died in the county hospital, Yast Monday night. His disease was a softening of the brain. He has resided for some time at North San Juang where he was taken sick, about six weeks ago, and being without means was sent to the hospital. Every attention was paid to bis wants while in the hospital, the at“torneys of this place having contributed towards paying the special expenses incurred for his comfort. Drrew Extexsion.—We learn that the miners of Chalk Bluff and Red Dog, hare recently finthe water from the big tunnel of the South Yuba ditch, and conveying it to Red Dog and other mining localities in that neighborhood. The owners of the ditch expect to sell 1,000 inches of water daily. Rervsiican County Coxvextion.—A Republican County Convention has been called to meet in this place, on Saturday next, the 11th fost., for the purpose of electing delegates to the State Convention, to be beld on the 22d. They invite all to co-operate with them who are willing to support the nominee of the Chieago Convention. Cocwtr Coxvextion.—The Administration Geateal Committee met in this place, on Saturday last, and called a County Convention to mect on Friday, the 24th inst. to elect delegates to the State Convention. The test recommended by the State Committee, we believe, was adopted. Rossgry.—The Daguerrean Gallery of Mons. Liebert, on Broad street, was broken open last Friday night, anda lot of daguerrean cases, pictures, etc., carried off. The property is of eonsiderable value to Mr. Liebert, but of no use fo the robber. Hosrirat Beripinc.—Mesers. Long & Shultes, abe contractors for building the county hospifal, are progressing rapidly with the work. The frame of the building was raised on Moo4sy, and they design to bave it covered and the roof on by the first of next week. Removat.—We learn shat Messrs. Joseph Brothers, of the Opposition Clothing Store, have leased the stand jately occupied by Sol. Koblman, corner of Broad and Pine streets, and will remove into their new place about the AStb inet. Mrxixo.—The proprietors of the Nebraska Shaft took out for four days’ work, last week, : $8,324. NEVADA DEMOCRAT. WEDNESDAY MORNING, FEB. 8, 1860. County Surervisors.—The Board of Supervisors met on Monday—all the members being present. The quarterly report of the County Physician was examined and approved. The bids for taking care of the indigent sick were epened. Only two bida were made: Dr. C. T. Overton proposed to take care of the sick for seventy-five cents a day, in cash, or scrip sufficient to make up that amount, and Dr. R. M. Hunt proposed to provide for the patients at the rate of one dollar a day, payable ia scrip on the indigent sick fund. There being little or no difference in the two bids, at the rate the scrip is now selling, the bid of Dr. Hunt was accepted by the Board. On Tuesday, the Board were engaged io transacting miscellaneous business,—examining accounts and petitions, renewal of licenses for toll bridges, etc., etc. The resignation of G. W. Tallman, Justice of the Peace for Washington township, was accepted, and Calvia Hall was appointed to fill the vacaney, ia accordance with the petition of numerous residents of the township. The Board will probably dispatch the business before them and adjourn this afternoon, ” Nothing has been done with road matters dui ring this session, as it is not yet known what Jaw will be in force for this county, during the eoming year. A special session will have to be held during the latter part of the month to traneact unfiuished business. Hosrirat Marrers.—From the quarterly report of the County Physician, Dr. R. M. Hunt, we learn that thirty-four patients have been admitted into the county hospital within the past three montbs, thirty-five bave been discharged, and three bave died, leaviog seventeen still under treatment. At the beginning of the year, when Dr. Hunt took charge of the hospital there were fifteen patients under treatment. An-examining of the several quarterly reports show that the average number of patients under treatment during the year was about twenty-two, and the total cost of their care a little over $9,400, which is some $5,000 lese é than the amognt expended for hospital purposes during the year ending in February 1859. Under the present contract, provided the number e of patients do not increase, the cost for the comoe ing year will be in the neighborhood of $8,000. About one-third of the patients treated during the past year, were injured in mining claims, and the most common diseases are billious aod typhoid fevers, rheumatism, sore eyes, ete. Txrus or Courts.—Mr, C. F. Smith has in3) troduced a bill into the Assembly, to fix the terms of the County Court and Court of Sessions of Nevada county. The bill provides that the regular terms of the County Court shall! be held on the first Mondays in January, May gad September; and the regular terms of the Court of Sessions on the first Mondays in March, July and November. At preseot there are six reguby lar terms of these Courts held every year, but ; anit is generally the case that but little busiq ness is trausacted, considerable expense to the county will be saved by the proposed change, and the public interests will be equally as well served, Provision is made for holding special terms whenever the Couuty Judge shall deem it /beeessary, Suicips or « Cursaman.—From the Hydraulic Press, we learn that a Chicaman committed suiA cide, recently, near San Juan, by hanging himself. The deceased owed soine of bis countrymen about $500, which he was unable to pay. Troubled in mind at his delingueney, at a season when every hovorable Celestial is expected ‘to equare bis accounts, he went off, none knew -whither, until bis body was discovered, hangfog by the neck to the limb of a tree in the lore wilderness, He had probably been dead about two weeks, Diep 1x Tus Hosritat.—Mr. J. C, Harvey, an attorney at law, died in the county hospital, Yast Monday night. His disease was a softening of the brain. He has resided for some time at North San Juang where he was taken sick, about six weeks ago, and being without means was sent to the hospital. Every attention was paid to bis wants while in the hospital, the at“torneys of this place having contributed towards paying the special expenses incurred for his comfort. Drrew Extexsion.—We learn that the miners of Chalk Bluff and Red Dog, hare recently finthe water from the big tunnel of the South Yuba ditch, and conveying it to Red Dog and other mining localities in that neighborhood. The owners of the ditch expect to sell 1,000 inches of water daily. Rervsiican County Coxvextion.—A Republican County Convention has been called to meet in this place, on Saturday next, the 11th fost., for the purpose of electing delegates to the State Convention, to be beld on the 22d. They invite all to co-operate with them who are willing to support the nominee of the Chieago Convention. Cocwtr Coxvextion.—The Administration Geateal Committee met in this place, on Saturday last, and called a County Convention to mect on Friday, the 24th inst. to elect delegates to the State Convention. The test recommended by the State Committee, we believe, was adopted. Rossgry.—The Daguerrean Gallery of Mons. Liebert, on Broad street, was broken open last Friday night, anda lot of daguerrean cases, pictures, etc., carried off. The property is of eonsiderable value to Mr. Liebert, but of no use fo the robber. Hosrirat Beripinc.—Mesers. Long & Shultes, abe contractors for building the county hospifal, are progressing rapidly with the work. The frame of the building was raised on Moo4sy, and they design to bave it covered and the roof on by the first of next week. Removat.—We learn shat Messrs.
