BEAUTIFUL THOUGHT.
BY HISOP DOANE,
Chisel in hand stood a sculptor hoy,
With his marble block before him,
And his face lit ap with @ #rile of joy,
As an angel dream passed o’er him.
He carved the dream on the shapeless atone,
With many « sharp incision;
With heaven’s own light the sculptuce shronre—
Ho had caaght that angel's vision,
‘Beulptors of life are we as we stand
With our souls uncarved before us,
W aiting the hour, when, at God’ command,
Our f paseer o'er us,
If we carve it, then, on the yyelding stone,
With many « sharp incision,
Its heavenly beauty shall be our own—
Our lives that angel's vision,
THE UNSEEN ISLAND.
There isa very old and beautiful story,

The shore waa etrange, yet lovely, and
thronged with thouvands who proclaimed

the erage, beyond the clouds that skirt this

no fountaine aparkle, and no flowers perfume; no music bat the wail of winds
and waves! no shelter but the shadow of a

Thither they will banish thee, and there
thou must make thy inevitable home, But
now thou art supremely blest; slaves do
thy bidding, and gold strews thy pathway
like sand, So, seek that island out; cause
the rock to be smitten, that it may gush
with living water; send fragrant flowers
