A Washington dispateh to the Cincinnati Enquirer, under date of October 11th says: The Pennsylvania returns, so far as re+ ceived, make the hearts of the » Administration camp followers leap with delight. The election is, doubtless, the greatest. victory of the Adninistration, which, at most, within six, months after its inauguration, broke through the decency: of duty and made plain its heretical purpose to divide the Democracy. Since that period the Administration, its liying lieutenaate, its pettifogging pensioners, its Congressional batalions, its;army of contumaciovs collectors, pitiful postmasters, and a horde of . varlets under their control, have, by every means of trickery, treachery, personal falsification and political apostacy, continued to create heart burnings, suspicions and divisions in the Democratic family; they have scored the history of the past three years with feelings of hate and timidity, with audacity and proscription, until a state of bitterness was cultivated that nothing but the immense personal popularity, unflinching . trath and Democratic statesmanship of the capdidate of the National Democracy could possibly overcome. The character of no Democratic statesman, save that of Stephen A. Douglas, could stem such a torrent of infamous treachery as was let loose upon the country by the Administration, and by those who spoke in its name, from the benches in the Senate Chamber of the United States to the desk of every land office in the interior, and the barrel tops of every bonded warehouse on the seaboard. It was known and felt that Douglas, as he had mainly made Mr. Buchanan President, was the only statesman whose truth and Democratic invincibility could make amends for the base apostacy of those he had put in power. * * * * * * The Administration levied taxes on all clerks in the Departments, and drew from a majority of the unresisting (because dependent) officials the means of carrying on this treasonable foray against the Democracy, abd the people’s interests, It had flooded the States in which Democracy and Republicanism were nearly balanced with documents and stump speeches in favor of Lincolo; for every line written against Douglas and Democracy—every oath printed against Douglas and Democracy—every oath and lie uttered against Douglas and Democracy—was alie printed, word expressed, an oath and lie vociferated for Lincoln, In this manner the Administration and the Yancey Breckinridgers laid the foundation of the Democratic defeat in Pennsylvania, In this manner they play into the bands of the disunionists, who declare they only want the opportunity to take active measures for secession, They Fay the election of Lincolo is the opportunity they desire, and the Administration” and Mr. Breckinridge are moving earth and hell to give them to Lincoln. The greatness of this Black Republican triamph in Pennsylvania, and the infidel exultation of . the Administration and disanion party only the more distinctly presents to view the enormity of the offense with which the latter stands charged before the Republic. Hanaine a Mernopist. Preacuer.—The Bulletin’s St. Louis correspondent says: The Arkansas Regulators, while in organization, assumed the additional authority of expelling persons who professed antislavery sentiments. On pursuit of this latter business, they not Jong. ago crossed the border into Southern Missouri, arrested a Methodist preacher named Bewley, and sent him manacled to the neighborbood of Sherman, Texas, where he was hanged by a Texan vigilance committee. This act has called for a lengthy defence of Bewley by his friends in this State, They acquit him of the charge of abolitionism, give him a high eharacter for piety and honesty, and insist in no State, whence he removed to Texas. He was temporarily absent when arrested and . remanded to Sherman as above described. . If innocent, as his. friends urge he is,. the . Tinep or Lirg.—At Itoad, in England recently, a child named Francis Saville Kent, Severay thousand Polieh Jews have re-. was murdered, and one Edmund John cently passed through Posen on their way Gregg gave himself up to the magistrates . ; as the marderer. Before his trial, however, it was discovered that he had not been near . the place where the murder was committed; that he did not know ‘the child murdered; and, io short, that he was in a distant part of the country. At last he confessed that his previous. confessiun was untrue, and that be bad been led to it because ‘his life was a burden to bim.” He was, of course, discharged.
