Aevida PHemocrat. LOCAL MATTERS, Conner Stone CeremMonres.—The members of Pennsylvania’ Hose Co. No. 2, laid the corner stone of their building, recently com. menced ow Broad street,’ yesterday afternoon, . The ceremonies were@iot particularly imposing, . the principal object being to deposit some articles that would be of interest to the curious a century or two hence, when the building shall have gon@to decay. 4 large number of citizens were present, and the Nevada Brass Band . lent their services to enliven the occasion. The . ceremony of laying the stone was performed by . Measrs. I. Williamson, President of the Hook . and Ladder’Co., and W. P. Harrington, Foreman of the Pennsylvania Co. The following records articleg were placed in a tin box, . which was deposited in the stone and hermetri. . cally sea } I of. Books in Nevada Library, May, 1860. d A copy of each of the local papers—the Democrat, Transcript, Journal, and Campaigner. Acopy of the San Francisco Spirit of the Times and Fireman’s Journal. Copies of the Constitution and By-Laws, and roll of members of Pennsylvania Co. and of the Hook and Ladder Co. A sketch of the services performed by the Pennsylvania Co., from its organization to date. The contract-with Kent & Mackay for erecting the building. st A sketch of the town of Nevada, giving the date of the deposit, the names of ‘the town officers, population, and other statistics. American and other coins, presented by Messrs. Kent, Turner, Easley, Patterson, Barton, Josephs, Jefferey, Young, Dreifuss, Lenhart, Stone, McGittigan, Harrington, Thompson, Davidson, Williamson, Wymore,-Fisher, Williams, and others. : Specimens of Washoe gold and silver ore, presented by Messrs. Laird and Scott. Photograph likeness of the late Henry Meredith, by Ligue. Several other-articles were deposited, among which was a sketch of the Sacramento fire department. Among the coins deposited, were quite a number that had passed through the fire of 1856. The box containing the articles was then deposited in its appropriate place, hermetrically sealed, and after a few appropriate and eloquent remarks by Judge Belden, the corner stone was adjusted, and the crowd dispersed to the music of the Band. Dgmocrkatic Mrextine.—The Democracy of Nevada tured out in large numbers yesterday evening, to hear Humphrey Griffith, Democratic candidate for Elector. The meeting was held at the corner of Broad and Pine streets, and was one of the largest of the season. Judge Belden presided, and on taking the chair made a short, but eloquent and telling speech. Mr. Griffith was then introduced and received with a perfect storm of applause. He spoke about an hour and a half; his remarks were argumentative and eloquent, and his stalwart blows against the Breckinridge and Lincoln parties were dealt with telling effect. He was listened to with marked attention, the crowd remaining to the end, and at the conclusion he was vociferously cheered. Several other speakers were called for, but the evening being cold and disagreeable, the meeting adjourned at the conclusion of Griffith’s speech, with three rousing cheers for Douglas, and three for Watt, our popular candidate for the Senate. StRaws.—An expression of Presidential preferences was taken at the Circus last Tuesday evening, at the instigation of the clown, by the clapping of hands and cheers. There were some four or five hundred persons inthe Circus and even the opposition admit that threefourths of the crowd cheered for Douglas. The cheering for the other candidates was very faint indeed. The Lincoln cheers all came from the pit, “Commodore Perry” leading off. The Circus men inform us that at every point where . they todk the political preferences’ of the audidence, the result was the same as at this place. As the Circus is an institution attended by all classes of people, the expression the other evening was undoubtedly a fair indication of what the vote of the county will be at the election. RgPUBLICAN MeETING.—The Republicans held a meeting in this place on Tuesday evening last, Messrs. Stanford, Weeks and Sargent being the speakers. Quite a large crowd was . in attendance, and considerable enthusiasm . prevailed while Weeks was delivering his} speech, As usual, the speakers asserted that . the Breckinridgers were the party the Republi-. cans had to fight, and then “pitched in” to. Douglas and his friends, thus showing that they yee the latter as their real antago. nists. The meeting adjourned about ten o'clock. Stawakt’s, StTovas*~Messrs. If the vitalizing fluid which pervades every tissue membrane, fibre, filament, gland or other organ, primary and subsidiary, be charged with the elements of disease, sickness must be the .consequence, and until the cause is eradicated, no permanent relief can be expected, Itis here that the powerful health restoring properties of SANDS’ SARSAPARILLA are manifested ; its searching operation reaches the germ of dfsease, and the cures it performs are therefore radical and thorough.
