ee age, $800. — oo — Aevada Pemacrat. LOCAL MATTERS, Kewen’s Spzecu.—Col. E. J.C. Kewen made a speech at the Nevada Theater yesterday evening. We dropped in during the fore part of the evening, and found the Theater tolerably well filled—the audience being a mixture of Breckinridgers, Lincolnites, Belleveretts and Democrats—the latter, we should judge, being the most numerous. As we entered the Theater, the Colonel was lauding the Democratic party; he spoke of its immutable primciples, and of the many benefits it had been to the country, with as much assurance as though he had belonged to the party for ten or twelve years. Like a great many other new converts, however, he has mistaken Buchananism for Democracy. He endeavored to prove, in his peculiar style of logic, that Douglas was not the regular nominee of the Democratie party; and having established this fact to his own satisfaction, he intormed his auditors that he would not have supported Douglas had he received every vote in the Convention. He said that the principles of the Black Republicans were more conservative than the principles of the Douglas Democracy, and that as between Douglas and Lincoln his choice would be Lincoln. His illustrations were far-fetched, and principally drawn from Jewish and Roman history, and his speech was in the florid, spreadeagle style, and not particularly calculated to make converts. McCabe, Henry Thiel, John Langleha, John McCaughern, Anthony Carroll, Timothy Corcoran. : Fire at Moorr’s Fiat.—The dry goods store of Joseph Gallenger, at Moore’s Flat, took fire last Wednesday night, and goods to the amount of $6,000 were destroyed. The store is in the centre of the town, but the fire was luckily discovered in time to prevent the flames from communicating with other buildings. Mr. Gallenger, his brother and a clerk named Waller were sleeping in the building, and were awakened by parties outside, just in time to save their lives. The fire was first discovered by the night watchman, employed by the citizens, and it is not known how it originated, We are indebted to Mr. Colby, the expressman, for the above. PosTroneD.—The grand gift entertainment of C. W. Young has been posponed until Saturday evening, December 29th. In consequence of the absorbing political excitement, of the past few weeks, and which will continue for some weeks longer, the tickets are not yet all disposed of. The tickets are being sold, however, as rapidly as could reasonably be expected, and the entertainment will come off without fail on the 29th of December next. ADDITIONAL Precincts.—The Board of Supervisors met yesterday, in special term, and established election precincts at Poorman’s Creek, in Washington township, and at Sailor Bar, in Eurekatownship. The places for opening the polls, and the names of the Inspectors and Judges, will be seen by reference to the general election notice on our fourth page. PeRsoNAL.—Mr. Wm. M. Lent, of San Francisco, and Joseph Clark, formerly of Nevada, arrived in town from Washoe yesterday evening, and favored us with a call this morning. They report the prospects of the Washoe and Esmeralda mines as highly encouraging. EASTERN PApers.—We are indebted to H, H. Wickes & Co., of the Broad Street Book Store, and G. W. ScHooL ELrection—An election was held in the Oakland school district, this afternoon, to vote on the question of levying a.special tax for the benefit of the phblic school of the district. McCabe, Henry Thiel, John Langleha, John McCaughern, Anthony Carroll, Timothy Corcoran. : Fire at Moorr’s Fiat.—The dry goods store of Joseph Gallenger, at Moore’s Flat, took fire last Wednesday night, and goods to the amount of $6,000 were destroyed. The store is in the centre of the town, but the fire was luckily discovered in time to prevent the flames from communicating with other buildings. Mr. Gallenger, his brother and a clerk named Waller were sleeping in the building, and were awakened by parties outside, just in time to save their lives. The fire was first discovered by the night watchman, employed by the citizens, and it is not known how it originated, We are indebted to Mr. Colby, the expressman, for the above. PosTroneD.—The grand gift entertainment of C. W. Young has been posponed until Saturday evening, December 29th. In consequence of the absorbing political excitement, of the past few weeks, and which will continue for some weeks longer, the tickets are not yet all disposed of. The tickets are being sold, however, as rapidly as could reasonably be expected, and the entertainment will come off without fail on the 29th of December next. ADDITIONAL Precincts.—The Board of Supervisors met yesterday, in special term, and established election precincts at Poorman’s Creek, in Washington township, and at Sailor Bar, in Eurekatownship. The places for opening the polls, and the names of the Inspectors and Judges, will be seen by reference to the general election notice on our fourth page. PeRsoNAL.—Mr. Wm. M. Lent, of San Francisco, and Joseph Clark, formerly of Nevada, arrived in town from Washoe yesterday evening, and favored us with a call this morning.
