Al evada Semocrat. . . LOCAL MATTERS, Races at THe GLENBROOK CoursE.—The . . races at the Glenbrook Course, yesterday afternoon, afforded the sporting fraternity, and the lovers of horseflesh generally, an exciting and . pleasant recreation. The first and principal . race was between Church's grey mare, Jenny Lind, and Brown’s roan mare; stakes, $100 a . side; distance, 440 yards. The grey won the . race by twenty feet. Jenny Lind has run sev. eral races, and always come out ahead, but it . was whispered round that the backers of the . roan had a “dead thing,” and the sporting fraternity and “farmer’s son,” offered large odds . against the grey, and lost their money. The betting was quite brisk, and some $2,000 or $3,000 changed hands, The second race was . between Lancaster’s black horse, and a grey . horse from Grass Valley; distance, 600 yards; about $200 changed hands. The black won . by thirty or forty feet. Another race was run, but we didn’t stay to see it. A CareLess HorseMAN.—During the barbecue celebration, at the race course, on Sat. urday afternoon, a little boy, some five or six years of age, was knocked a distance of ten or twelve feet, by a careless horseman, who rode . at full speed over the ground occupied by women and children. The little fellow picked himself up, screamed at the top of his voice, and inquired if there was any blood on his head; when assured there was not, he walked off, apparently but little hurt. It was almost . a miracle that he was not instantly killed. . The horseman rode on, amid the execrations of the people, and apparently indifferent as to the injuries he might have inflicted on the boy. We did not learn the man’s name. Itis possible that he may not have been able to manage his horse; for we can bare believe that any human being would so needlessly endanger the lives of women and children. Democratic Mrrtinos.—Messrs. J. R. . McConnell, of Nevada, and A. B. Dibble, of . Grass Valley, are announced to speak as follows: at Omega, this (Tuesday) evening; Eureka, Wednesday evening; French Corral, Thursday evening; Rough & Ready, Friday evening; Red Dog, on Saturday evening. We understand, however, that an arrangement has been entered into for a political discussion at Rough & Ready, between Mr. Dibble and Mr. Whiteside, which will be held on Friday evening, in place of the speeches of McConnell and Dibble. Scnoot Tax.—An election was held in the Oakland School District, last Saturday after. noon, on the proposition to levy a special tax for the support of the public school of the District. “Only thirty-five votes were cast, of which thirty-two were in favor of the tax and three against it. There are, we presume as many as a hundred yoters in the District, but as there . was little opposition to the measure many did not go to the polls. The election was held at the school house, just outside of the city limits. MontTeEzuMA Precrnct.—Mr. Tracy, of Nevada, informs us that a yote was taken for President, in Fox’s Saloon, Montezuma precinct, last Saturday evening, with the following result : Douglas, 23; Breckinridge, 1; Lincoln, 1. This vote shows that all the Douglas men of the county were not at the barbecue last Saturday. We are informed that about sixty votes will be cast at Montezuma, two-thirds of which will be for Douglas, and the remainder about equally divided between Lincoln and Breckinridge. Tue Grass VALLEY AccIDENT.—The National, in speaking of the late accident in Grass Valley, caused by firinga cannon, says :— “Gaylord was blown some thirty feet from the gun turning over several times, breaking his . knee pan by striking upona rock. Whiting was blown about fifty feet, but had no bones broken. They are both very severely injured, but will recover, and probably without the loss of sight as was at first feared.” Last CHancr.—Persons entitled to their naturalization papers, and desirous of procuring them before the election, can have an op. portunity of doing so on Saturday next, No-. vember 3d. The District Court will be in ses. sion on that day for the last time prior to the . election. To Townsuie CanprpaTss.—Candidates for Justices of the Peace and Constables, who . wish to have their names placed on the regular . Democratic ticket, should send in their orders . to the DemocrAT office immediately, accompanied by the cash. Drrartvure.—Mr. Henry G. Phillips, who Special Notices. Sands’ Sarsaparilla—For Purifying the blood —Health depends almost entirely upon the state of the blood, If the vitalizttig fluid which pervades every tissue membrane, fibre, filament, gland or other organ, primary and subsidiary, be charged with the elements of disease, sickness must be the consequence, and until the causeis eradicated, no permanent relief can be expected. Itis here tha ‘the powerful health restoring properties of SANDS’ SARSAPARILLA are manifested ; its searching operation reaches the germ of disease, and the cures it performs are therefore radical and thorough.
