j ‘Bevada “Gevnds Democrat, ses notes . wsetanene > —_— LOCAL M ATTERS, THe New Reotment.—We have heard . nothing, since our last issue, relative to the . new regiment it is proposed to raise in this, State, to. go East. Companies are being re-. cruited at Sacramento and Marysville, as well . as one at Nevada, but recruiting has not vet . commenced at San Francisco. Some thirty. eight names are already signed to the roll of . the company proposed to be raised in this! county, and a number of others have signified . their intention to join. There will be no difficulty in raising the company; but as the men . who propose to join are all working men, it is . not deemed advisable to break up their busi. . Ps ness and go to drilling, until itis known fora . certainty that the regiment will be raised. We . expect to get some further information on the subject this evening. Stace Line To Wasnoe.—The movement . for establishing a stage line between Virginia . City and Lincoln, by way of the Henness Pass, . Eureka, Nevada and Grass Valley, is likely to . be carried out. Mr. McCue proposed to estab. lish the line, if he could be assured of receiving amonthly contribution of $300, until next March. A subscription paper was started yes. terday afternoon, anda monthly subscription of $500, ranging in sums of from $5 to $25, . was obtained in a short time, and with little . exertion. With this bonus, McCue will be able . to keep the stages running until next March, . and after that date it is believed the line will be . self-sustaining. MiLitaky Mar.—We were shown yester. day a copy of *‘Smith’s Military and Naval . Map of the United States.” It has lately been . published, and is the best map of the United . States we have ever seen. Besides the map . proper, it comprises a large amount of useful . statistical information, and is a library in itself, Mr. P. L. Washburn, the agent for this county, will be here again about the 10th proximo, and in the mean time, persons desiring the map can . leave their orders at Welch's book store, Commercial street. The price is $12. CuANGE.—Mr. A. Bran has leased Mr. Harrington’s intérest in the well-known and popular saloon, corner of Broad and Pine streets, and is now associated with Mr. Beckmanin the . “onduct of that institution. Mr. Bran has been employed in this saloon for a long time, and is . perhaps as well posted in the art of compounding cocktails, juleps, etc., as any man in the State. County Covrt—Sept. 24th.—Robinson vs. Dalton.— Demurrer sustained, and counsel . given three days to amend complaint. Sept. 25th—Nichols vs. Sykes.—Cause submitted to the Court, and taken under advisement. Welch vs. Berry.—Set for trial Sept. 29th. Adjourned until to-morrow, at ten A. M. Jewish New Yxar.—The Jewish New) Year commenced at sundown, yesterday evening, and is being observed to-day by the Israelites of Nevada, according to their peculiar . rites. The New Year ceremonies will be kept up until sundown on Friday, and Saturday is the fast day. Reiigiovus CHANGE.—Dr. Wm. Grove Deal . left here this morning, with his family, for Ma. rysville, having been appointed to the charge ofthe Methodist church in that place. Mr. Hill, the successor of Dr. Deal, is expected here to-morrow. tentaniienaedammeemmmnnmmmnnel Buoopy Arram neark Grass VaLLey.— A bloody affray took place on Monday last, at the ranch of the Hoxie Brothers, about «wo miles from Grase Valley, between two of the Hoxies on one side, and four I[rish-. men, one of whom is named Owen Kerwin, The following particulars are given io Tuesday’s National: oe According to John Hoxie’s statement, whic may be taken with due allowance, he having . been active in the scrape, two of his brothers were hauling wood to Grass Valley; after they from the house some distance, he heard . a screaming in the direction where the team . had gone, and, supposing the wagon had turned . over, and his brothers were hurt, he and another man went down the road. He found the pied men pounding Peter Hoxie with stones, a por. tion iy the’ vere’ being on the top of the oad . of wood, where Peter had reached for safety. . Kerwin, according to John Hoxie, was in the . . act of striking Peter Hoxie on the back of the . head, (having already done so several times,) . . when i requested him to desist. Whereupon Kerwin threw a stone at him. John Hoxie then . fired one shot from a revolver at Kerwin, the . ball entering near the right eye, and passing up . . and lodging in the side of the head. The ia is pronounced a severe, but not necessarl fatal one. Dr. Tyrrell extracted the ball. . Hoxies have brought suit against Kerwin an his men for donee and battery, to be tried on . Thursday next; and the other parties will, per. haps, have the Hoxies arrested to-day. WRECK or THE GOLDEN Gare. —The par. ties who have the contract for recovering the $1,500,000 buried in this wreck are, says e Cail, erecting a house on the beach nen ee and are laying in provisions for a lengt Baad ries of operations. The wreck lies yy . stern buried in the sand, andonly her wed and a portion of the machinery visible at bo above the rollers. Up to this time the surf has t work, effectually prevented any attempt eo te though a smooth spell may enable to get at her. . restorer. Rev. To Correspondents.—Patients residing in any part of the State, however distant, who may desire the opinion and advice of Dr. Young, on their re. spective cases, and who think proper to submit a written statement of such, in preference to holding a personal interview, are respectfully assured that their communications will be held most sacred. Dr. Young takes this opportunity of observing that all letters are only opened and replied to by himself, and the latter as promptly as possible, If the case be fully and candidly described, personal communications will be superceded, as instructions for diet, regimen, and the general t.eatment of the case itself, (inclu ding the remedies,) will be forwarded without delay, and in such a manner as to convey no idea of the purport of the letter or parcel so transmitted, &@® Office, 751 Clay street, San Francisco.
