The ravine gravels et NUREK\ SOUTH WES first worked in the Spring of "50." <A year later the deen digevines were discovered and opened up. Yor mee then twelve years, until the eravel diggings were worked out Eureka was a prosperous mining towne fhe revival of cuartz mining in 1866 resulted in mother boom in this area and for a number of years the poprlation averaged about three hundred. In 1877 a post office was here established under the name @PANITEVILLEL fae : GRANITEVILLE IS GOLD al PRODUCER SINCE 1850 Graniteville or Eureka is 26 . miles from Nevada City on Poor,man’s creek between the South ,and Middle Yuba. Mining was . first done there in the.spring of 1850, in the ravines. The diggings , Were opened in 1851. Graniteville was at one time _the jumping off place for the higher mountains and terminus of a stage line.
