POLITICS June 27 cont'd. a flag 20 by 60 ft. They help to raise a flag pole 135 ft high. Lippet's Regiment has a surplus of volunteers..enough to form another regiment. Appeal June 29, 1861 A convention of Nevada County Republicans to be held in the county seat July 13. Recruits for Lippit's Regiment arrive from Dutch Flat & Little York. Avpeal June 30, 1861 Republicans nominate Jos. Kutz for Senator and Squire Farquhar for County Clerk. Apveal July 2, 1861 Douglas Democrats hold county convention at Nevada. Candidayes names. Report from Nev. Democrat of an election of officers of Col Lippitt's regiment. Officers named with title and address within the county. San Francisco Disptch reports Sec. of War Cameron declines to accept regiment formed by Col. Lippitt. Appeal July 10, 1861 Lippitt’s regiment will disband becuse of not being received into the army. Several liberty poles erected in Grass Valley, one is 160 fio high with a flag 30 by 32 ft. Appeal July 17, 1861 A Repaiblican Club organized at Seetland. Nev. Democrat & the Appeal debate the question of dividing the school fund between Public & Parochial schools and the effect of this issue on the election of Stanford or Conness for Governor. Some fine-spun church & political theories. Appeal July 18, 1861 Appeal approves the Republican ticket of Nevada County. Editor favors particularly : Ned Burton, Kutz, Collins, Avery, Sears, McFarland, Turner, Farquhar, Sykes, Waite. Some personal history given for each of these nominees.
