. . The lining and Scientific Press, 409 A New Misrrat.—We leara from Cosmos that a new minerul bas been discovered at Oravieza, in the Banat, to which M. Vacherouk hay given the namo “Alloclaso.” The aiincral is composed of eulphur, arsenic, bismuth and cobalt, in the mode expressed in the formala Co® As§ $? . in which it is supposed thut one. fourth of arseaic may be repinced by on equal qaaatity of bismuth. It forms rhombohedric crystals of a copperish-gray color, fouad in culcite, and necottpanied with aciculur arsenical pyrites. Breithuapt has confounded allucluse witb gluncodote. Fanuixa Orr in tig Gin Yterp.—It is stated by the Pittsburg Oi News that the yiald of off has fallen off ovaily one half in Pennsylvania since the first of January last. The cause is chiefly attributed to the excessive tax on crude oil, which eflectaully shuts off ott but the most abundantly paying wells. ‘The proposed new tax luw, now under consideration in Congress, abolishes this tax entirely, as it ehould do. 5 xe Raisracu ww Cattronsta,— The Nevada (Cul) Gazetle chronicles the rainfall at tbat city during tbe past seasoa, which it states to have aggregated fifty-six and eleven-hundredths inches. At Grass Vulley it was a little less, and at Sacramento it was only 4 little over sixteen inches. At Sacrainento there is geuerully less ruin than in any other section of Northern Culifornia, while by far the greatest full occurs in the Sierra Nevada. Searine Patents.—A statoment is going the rounds of tho press to the effect that the quantity of sealing wax aow required for one year's consumption in Hngtand, for seating patents for inventions, is upwards of a ton and two hundred weight, In Englund it is custo. mary to load a patent with a seal weighing from a half pound to a pound, and if this liberal allowance of wax was made in our Putent Office at Washington, our business fur the year 1866 would scarcely be done.witb less tbaa five toas of sealing wax. + Tin Ore 1x Maine.—A company of Eastern capitalists, known as the National Tin Mining Company, with their office at No. 64 Broadway, N.Y. bas beea orgavized to work a tia tmiae ia Oxlord county, Maine. Qurry.—Some oae inquires through the Pittsburg Oil News whether apy one has ever found oil flowing from a well which yields fresh water. It bas been stated that there is no instaace known of fresh water coming up witb oil. How is it? Leap aad zinc veins have been traced through several counties ia ‘lennessee. One yem from Elizabethton, in Carter county, through New Market Valley, and into Aaderson county, and coutinuing to Blount county, Powell’s Vulley.
