The Grass Valleyans are as enthusiastic:
and inflexible Unionists as one could wish to
meet withal. On Thursday evening they
fairly crammed their theatre to suffocation,
to give vent to their adoration of the Republie, symbolized by the “Stars and Stripes.”
Hundredf, not early enough at the doers to
gain admittance, went home disappointed in
their hopes but not shaken in their principles. “Old Block,* that embodiment of all
that is patriotic and genial, made a good
speech, and so did that other genial patriot,
Judge Roberts. It must have been a time
of political refreshing—an epoch to be treasured in the traditional lore of Grass Valley—
for, when we were there on Saturday, the
“Huge Union Meeting” was the exultant
theme. of everybody we met. Success te

was advertised to lecture on that evening, but
wlooked for circumstances prevent his‘toming here at that time. He will come here,
however, and deliver the closing lectute of
_ the series.

They were found by a white man who was

Booth, the coast pilot of the revenue cutter
Harriet Lane, reports the discovery of a boiling
fresh water spring at sea, off the coast of Florida,
Hesays the spring is situated twelve miles, north
by cast, from St. Augustine, Fla., and eight
miles off shore. Ty boils up with great force,
aad can be descricd at a distance of two miles.
When first seen it has the appearance ofa break@,and is generally avoided; but there is no
dager in the Vicinity,as there are five athomsef
water between it and the shore. Ten fathoms of
water are found to the seaward, but no bottom
tan be reached with the deep sea lead and thirty
fathoms of time at the spring itself. The water
in the spring is fresh, and ig by no means unpalPOLITENESS IN Rosera.—Perhaps the
