ving jatig of Per, k of THURS Day g * maT 28, ces ar Novte PRos.— The District Attorney yesterday morsing ‘moved fora nel. pros, in _ the case of Mullen and “Tracy, under indiet_ inent with Mulligan for théjmurder of Res . ’ verez, at Cherokee. They were acer ingly’ , The catse of this move wis o owing to the feet that no evidence cotild be found sufficient to conviet Mulligan, still less Mullen and oe at liberty. CES niry . SraRe King’s Lecrurs.—Rev. Thomas Starr King delivered his celebrated lecture, on the “Confederate States, Old and New” last evening to » crowded theatre. The ladies turned out liberally as useal to hear the rifted drator. The lecture gave a woful pieture of the new Confederate States in contrast with the old, and threw beautiful garlands of words continually toa delighted an. ditury. ‘rhe lecture ig a brilliant one and only to be heard to be appreciated. must naturally attract a more numerous anditery to-night, when-a-kindred subject will . be treated in no doubt handsome style—Rebellion Pictures, from Paradide Lost.” Let everybody who is cupable of enjoying a an, in : ~~teHectunt treat be on hand. Lites f poten atal alii on seoctieepe Tae Sraxpine Irsm.— We noticed a huge pile of mee looking granite reeks at the south end of the Pine street bridge this morndesigned to build a wall of masionry to fasten the anchors ef the cables on that side. The anchors have lately been moved to their places and considerable labor’ has been expended in clearing out the tannela, quarrying stone &c , which being mostly done out of sight would lead an outsider to suppose the bridge in statu quo ante stormum, when inreality, it is marching towards completion though ‘without any great demonstration. to the public. Once the anchors are in position and fast and the attachments wade to them, the remainder of the job is quickly performed. Doe Tax.—We believe there is a municipal law pow in foree imposing a tax of five doliais a year on al! canines. Such a law was passed once, and we have no recollection of ite ever having been repealed. “This law takes it the duty of the Marshal to-exterminate every dog not provided with a tag, indicating that ite requirements have been complied with. We understand that it 1s in contemplation to execute the provisions of this manicipal regulation —not, however, till after ample‘netice has been given. Therefore, ye that own valuable dogs, get your tags ready. tte M. Liepeev’s GaLLeny.—This fine es. tablishment the best that ever was in these mountains, is offered for sale by its owner.— ‘NO better chance can be offered te step into an established and lucrative business at moderate prices. For a young man desirous of earning this beautiful art and embarking in busmese this is a rare opportunity, as M. Liebert proposes to teach a young man so inclined. . ARREST.—Officer Knerr yesterday arrested . a inan named William Ferguson, who has given signs of insanity for some days past. — Among other freaks going to show insanity it is eaid that w daye ago he dug his own grave.
