Miste Rirce Batt Music.—A correspondent from the battle feld, says:
The enemy were mest splendidly armed
with Enfield and Minnie nfles, throwing balls
of English manufacture, with the box wood
plug in the base, The passage of these balls
clesd to one’s head, is followed by the most
‘infernal hissing sound itis possible to imag?+ Sometimes they seemed to me to be .
endowed with vitality, and possessed of the
ne.
most fiendish spitit of vindictiveness. Then,
ugnin, they reminded me of geese following
you in the read, not dangerous, but exasperating. But the moet singular thing, and
which I do not remember to have heard
mentioned heretofore, is the effect of these
balla upon the atmoxphere through which
they pass. The passage of one immediately
across your face is followed by a momentary sensation of deathly sickness. The air
seems thick, stifling and putrid, like that of a
newly opened vault, accompanied by an oder [4
of certain kinds uf fangtl found in the woods
and never willingly disturbed by either man
or beast. I should like to know if any one
else has felt this, or if it is a peculiar fancy
of my own.

The rebele, cautiously edvancing, at once

triumph, guve the order to charge in a body
