A. Forbes, who represents the executors. Counties Coisted Onicaco, April 11—Upon receiving news from’ New. York of the capture of Albert Skoog, who is pronounced by officers of the United States Secret Service. one of the most proficient counterfeiters, Oaptain Porter, of the United States Secret Service, located in this city,at once made arrangements to have him returned to Ohicago for trial. The arrest was considered of so much importance that a cablegram was sent to the authorities in Sweden, ,who have been waiting to take posses‘sion of Skoog as soon as the United States Government gets ‘through with him. Skoog was arrested in this city on January 27, 1897, for passing a counterfeit $20-bill. Government officers searched his house and secured a complete out it: for making bogus bills. Besides, they found eighty-five $20bills and over $3000 worth of the bogus Swedish kroner notes. Pending a hearing of his case before’ the Federal Grand Jury, Skoog was confined in the County Jail at Joliet, while the .Oook County Jail was being reconstructed. Early in the morning of March 22d he} . made his escape with two other alleged counterfeiters, James Foley and Jacob Johnson. The latter two sawed the window bars of the jail, while Skoog smothered the sounds by playingan accordeon. Skoog is said to have re-engaged 1n counterfeiting the same bills since his escape. San Franoisco, April 11—Mra, Mary Marvin, who was seriously burned a few days ago, died at her home in this city today, and Mrs. Maggie Pfeff must . a answer to a charge of murder. The. two women quarrelled at the home of Mrs. Marvin, Monday night. It is alleged that during the quarrel Mrs. Pfeff threw a ighted lamp at her antagonist. The burning oil scattered over Mrs. Marvin, and she was fatally burned. Mrs. ‘Pfeff was arrested and charged with assault with adeadly weapon, which will be changed to murder. She denies having thrown the lamp, but saye it fell on Mrs. Marvin’s head from a shelf. eee Weather Prediction. There is a distinct and emphatic call for a large central boarding school of high grade, with normal and industrial departments. The outlook for industrial, educational and religidus quickening is encouraging. Duritg the past two years great advances have beeh made. The people, in‘spite of the present disturbances, are -expectant of great changes for the better. The hope of the ‘fair land: is in the children.. By their ready assimilation of American ideas, they constitute the groundwork of ,a new.civiland moral order.
